Hello /biz/, wondering if I can get a little career advice. I'm hoping to start a career in IT. My plan has been to become A+ certified and get a help desk or tech support role for experience, and branch out from there. This seemed to me like a pretty simple, well-defined path. Now recently, I've been learning a little web development with HTML and CSS and am really enjoying it. Is this a viable way to break into the field? I see a job of bootcamps and sites advertising how easy it is to start freelancing or working right after learning HTML but I don't really buy it. Is this a viable career path? Thanks!

As someone in your position who is putting that plan on hold because I'm getting a job making 25hr. What specificlly in it do you wanna do? Even just an a+ is good, but it doesn't open a path. It's like wanting to do construction but working at a hardware store. Yeah, you'll learn stuff. But that doesn't make you a construction worker. Are you going into security, engineering, just being a web developer?

Well as I'm coming in from another field I'm not really sure what I want to do yet. The biggest draw for me is that it's a growing field with job security for those who do it well. I enjoy the creative aspect of web development and also the hours and flexibility sound great. I also wouldnt mind getting into some kind of data science role as I also have an interest and background in finance. I have a little experience backtesting and modeling trading systems, which I enjoyed. I was thinking of A+ as a relatively quick way to break into the field and start getting some experience on my resume.

In the same position. Can somebody without a computer science or programming related degree get into this field with self taught experience?
