>six months into job
>new boss two months ago
>get on really well personality wise
>job has a six month probation period
>11am this friday have my probation meeting
>been told it's being extended by three months (by my boss)
>been told HR will be there because he's new and doesn't know the ins and outs of the policies
>boss knows I despise HR
>meeting is supposedly to discuss progress moving forward etc.
>asked if I'm in a bad place and need to get back on track, told no
>asked if it's a PIP, told no
>high up manager in the office I work also seems to think it's an extension and nothing more, but didn't say specifically

Am I being paranoid or am I about to be fired? I really don't feel good about this, the only thing that makes me think I'm not about to be fired is the fact that I'm having to travel to another city for this meeting (expensive for the company), and I think if they wanted to fire me they'd just do it over email or a conference call with HR in my city.

I have another job offer and I'm genuinely considering handing in my notice tomorrow or the day after to protect myself against being fired.

What do I do?

>> No.12860895

Take the other job offer. If they valued you, they wouldn’t extend your probationary period. Also, any job that has a “probationary” period is a shit job

I don't really want the other job though, it's kind of just my fall back. It's the same type of job, but it's a smaller company and my boss kind of seems like a dickhead. The money is more though.

I started looking for other jobs a while ago after I started to panic about the probation coming up, I love where I work currently but I'm just worried about this is why I started looking elsewhere.

The fuckers in HR at the office I work at have some concerns about me turning up late (fuck them, I'm salaried, if I turn up five minutes late and work four hours after-hours unpaid and you do me for being late, go kill yourself) and my new boss, while he says he considers me an asset and is optimistic about me, says he is concerned about the speed with which I complete some tasks, but wont expand further until he's finished the assessment thing he has to do ahead of the review. I think maybe this is because he works in another office, I work somewhere he's never been yet and doesn't understand the working environment, and also he doesn't get that I have additional responsibilities he isn't fully aware of outside of his/my primary department. But equally, he's a very capable individual who has very high demands.

Fatal mistake, right there. Take it from an old fossil: At work, It truely doesn't mather if you put 16 hours of unpaid work after your shit, if you're late a single minute. HR will not have any problem pulling your clocking times to make this point.

PIPs aren't there to give you a chance to stay, they're there to collect documentation that you're fired for the "right" reasons, meaning you can't sue/etc...

90% of people put on PIPs won't be there after the the review, and for the other 10% their career at the BoomerCorp is finished even if the management changes since its all in the docs.

Working in small companies is great.

It's easy to work your way up if you're not retarded and when you leave for a bigger company you can pretend it was way harder to become a manager than it actually was.

I unironically think you should move to the smaller company for the sake of personal development and arbitrage your experience there into a managerial position at a larger company at a later date.

In terms of keeping me, one minute he's saying he knows I interviewed somewhere else (true) and is asking how he can keep me, then he's saying he'll look into giving me more money, then he's saying he can't increase my salary, then he's talking me into taking this other job I've been offered and how it'll be good for me, then he's saying he values me and wants me to stay, then he's saying he is extending my probation by three months because he's not sure.

Your boss sounds sneaky. Be careful of those types, ultimately people like him are there to save their own asses. He'll say what he thinks you want to hear to you then turn around and tell HR things they want to hear.

Just observe how your co-workers treat you, it's very likely they are the source of the complaints against you. Notice if they like you or not, look out for some smarmy person with an agenda.

Very likely HR is just reacting to what people around you are saying. I had the same problem to, I thought my performance wasn't good enough despite giving my absolute all, but my co-workers disliked my 'attitude' and the way I look so some smarmy cunt complained me to HR.

If you are able to figure out what your surrounding things of you, you can determine whether you want to stay there long term. It's likely not your lateness, theres a snake in your environment.

I exclusively masturbate to JAV repeating the mantra: "White girl roastie, white girl roastie you look so grossly." when I climax to confirm just how shitty white woman are they are bullies and have enlarged vaginas because of all the sex they have with random chads. I lovingly spread the sperm (life force) over the picture of the Asian woman on screen or sometimes I print out pictures of them (for more power)

OP, your organization and its policies are shit and seem like they are from 1980s. Your boss is a shifty and dodgy mother fucker who, I'm 100% sure, will can you after you complete your project if not sooner.

Run away from that organization and never look back.

As some anons have already said, oftentimes it's much easier to go up the career ladder in a small organization. Once you've done that you can take your experience and title and a get much better position in a global company if you'd still want to do that by then.

Hes on probation which in HR terms means they are testing you out and can fire you for anything with no strings attached, if a probationary period is extended for an employee that is usually a signal that HR has decided that a replacement candidate has not been found yet and the employee has to be strung along for a bit longer, in OPs case thats 2 months. Current corporate culture is extremely anti male and is fucking toxic so much babying going on its horrible, most large to very large corporations follow this trends and therefore I would avoid if you are trying to have a career in them. I would venture to guess the best job environment could be found in a small to mid size corporation where you work directly under the owner/exec in a predominantly male business such as finance, architecture whatever.

small to mid size corporate businesses have the flexibility and pragmatism to bend the rules for its workers and have a lot less worker turn over rates.
