Please. You can speculate all you want but no one worth their salt buys on speculation alone. Maybe some poor college kids who read these posts think OH MAN THIS IS GONNA POP but when they actually look into their earnings and guidance you see that there’s NOTHING THERE ITS TOO EXPENSIVE TO MAKE MONEY ON I’m telling you in 5 years you will see profit but right now at this very moment in 2019 REFR isn’t going anywhere but 3 bucks or 4 if they beat earnings which they won’t.
But bulls like you are so deluded and probably 1500 shares deep that you have to pray it pops cause you can’t get out now edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

If you have all those holdings in a tax deferred account like a 401k or an IRA then you just sell out of stocks and buy bonds. Its tax deferred so no tax paid yet.

You pay taxes when you finally get to pay yourself at retirement. As long as the money is in your portfolio, that is where it stays til retirement.

Don't long China for the love of god. If you have to Nio, Baba and IQ are the only good bets I'm aware of. Nio probably won't be shit ironically until their economy hits a brick wall, as this is going to involve the housing market imploding worse than the US in 2008 and all of a sudden people will be able to buy cars again. Baba because they're not dependent on China wholly, and they'll be doing more US business in the states as the years pass. And IQ because cheap entertainment does well in a downturn. Don't get me wrong, they'll all take hits when China officially goes terminal, but they'll come out stronger.

STORJ and ONG will pump this weekend. ONG, idk. But STORJ will probably pump around 6am on Sunday and pull a 70%+. The same whale did ARK two weeks ago and last week.
There'll be another coin to hit 100% tomorrow morning from 6am-9am, dunno what though. Wait until Wednesday for it to cool off and buy it then.
WABI might pump this weekend too.

But really the windows you wanna look to for pumps (on Binance at least) are between 5-10am Saturday. Small 10-20% low volume pumps won't reach any higher, but when something hits 50%+ it means that its gonna get volume and pump further and reach its peak mid-afternoon. 2pm.

The only reason I'm telling anyone this is because I already have my bags ready so it makes no difference. Hopefully some of you can siphon off a few of the rest of /biz/'s fomo wads.

STORJ moved exactly like ARK did and the price has been very similar to what ARK’s was like last week. After the volume ramped up on STORJ and profits became slimmer, ARK started pumping.
Each week follows a
>new coin moons
>new coin gets volume, cools, increased value holds
>old coin moons, holdovers at a loss from previous week sell, plummets to pre-1st pump levels

Psychologically this is a very potent strategy because people’s fomo from the previous coin’s moonshot hasn’t cooled. If anything they’re thinking “Nows my chance!” and are expecting even bigger gains since the price never returned to the previous 4-week low last pump.

It sounds like the SEC investigation is behind them. People are spinning that the miss was due to lessened demand for their products but sales growth was at around 4% and the miss was due to higher costs. Costs are cyclical and a lot easier to manage than a decline in sales. With the drop in price the dividend is still high and relatively safe. Gonna bag me another 100 at $35.

Nice digits so I will give my opinion on why I'm buying more after listening to the call when I was initially disgusted with the entire team.

>$1.3B in cash with $33B in debt

They cut the dividend to pay down the debt quicker and are starting to sell off units that don't gel properly with their core business models with the proceeds going to debt repayment.

>SEC Investigation
Already resolved and had an immaterial impact on their financial statements. From the call:

>So the Company was notified by the SEC regarding an investigation into the Company's procurement area. Following this, we conducted a very thorough internal investigation with the support of an independent law firm and accounting firm. And we determined that we should have recorded $25 million in prior periods, which we booked in Q4 2018. And to put it into context, that compares to our overall procurement spend of over $11 billion which excludes big four commodity spending. So this misstatement was not material for our current or prior year financial statements. And finally, we did implement several improvements, internal controls and took remedial measures to mitigate the likelihood that this happens again.

>Missed bottom and top of earnings
Missed due to increased costs which are cyclical and easier to address than a decrease in sales. Consumption growth was actually around 3-4% which is great for an established consumer staple company like Heinz.

>Cut divvy
Still paying over 4% and was a necessary step to address the debt issue. I honestly saw this coming but I figured it was already priced in, big mistake on my end. I'd be more concerned if they didn't cut the divy.

>People are moving to healtier foods
See sales growth of 4% plus with the extra money from the dividend cuts they can use it to invest in healthier product lines.

I'm really bummed about SEEL. The company seems great on paper.
>The Seelos Way
>Assets must serve a large unmet medical need, orphan population or a unique approach to existing treatments
>Assets must possess extensive scientific rationale and/or existing human data
>Seelos will look for clinically ready assets or assets where minimal pre-clinical work will be needed
>The clinical development pathway should make economic sense and be appropriate for a company our size

Am I reading this right? They're basically just a VC firm that buys stage2/3 drugs already proven to work.
The board of directors seems fine too. Pajeets should be good VCs, no?

also this yes. unless youre approved for naked short contracts, youd have to BTC the calls then sell stock, or do it simultaneously

>I know dude weed's going up
i dont but i digress

>if I sold calls for Sept at 10$ for 130$ a pop, even if I'm forced to execute those contracts I'd still make a considerable profit since I bought at 7.5?
w a $1.30 credit, you should be protected from any losses at all (barring fluctuations in vol) for $1.30 under where the contracts were sold at, until expiry. if it goes below that, you will be losing money (or rather, since your B/E is 7.5, gains) at the same rate you normally would without any covered calls

>> No.12833903

>>12833632
my rule of thumb is that covered calls are kinda fucking gay and not worth it unless youre selling into heavy vol desu (unless you got 100 AMZN or some shit, then just harvest weeklies and fuckin retire bruh)

i sell weekly/monthly OTM calls (sometimes ATM if im queezy on the stonk and want muh gains NOW) on sudden heavy red days. no real reason to do it all the time unless youre trying to stay well hedged and boomer your way up/down by 0.2% every other day

>i dont but i digress
Don't worry, I'm not stupid enough to think it's a straight shot. It's clearly overvalued, but the market isn't going to realize that until well after nationwide legalization. Every state and country is a potential catalyst event, so as long as we don't enter a bear market it'll get incrementally higher and higher and then crash on a repeat.

if youre happy with where your gains are now, and dont think its gonna absolutely CRASH next week and want out, sell weekly ATM calls on a red day. thats my trick to get pay day a week early and still be able to kinda hang onto my position. worst case, you get called away at strike on expiry. you keep total premium as well as the gains (being in this case, the difference in your stock positions B/E and the call strike * number of shares)

and if the red day is fake and gay, and it looks like its totally gonna take the fuck back off and you DONT wanna get exercised, you can usually buy it back before it goes ITM again for a smol (like 5-10%) profit because of the steep theta decay near expiry and how vega fluctuates when a contract goes OTM near expiry

its a trick for a rainy monday/tuesday where you think your stonk is gonna stay flat/go down a bit for the week, but you also kinda sorta dont really give a fuck if you leave the position on friday at pretty much this price, and instead want money NOW

i mean SOMEONE is doing it
theyre called MMs
it just seems incredibly lucrative and easy in the case of the triple leveraged inverse ETFs (not to mention the options markets which are just a total shitshow. almost erryone who buys those is retarded. ur better off buying calls/puts on the underlying).
due to the vast decay from daily resets, and due to most markets bullish bias they will ALWAYS go down 99% over time.

so the ones in the US would prolly be crowded
but say some EM thats just getting their own 3x ETFs (go set one up in brazil and drown in bunda), or if yuros ever ban CFD over there (would make a demand for them overnight)

a similar effect could be achieved running this on any of the really contangoD commodities ETFs (for now at least) too

and look at the volume on these 3x ETFs since last year. its like everyone found out about em the day after volpocolypse. running market on SPXS would be the tits. and running the options market TOO?

sure
but i didnt choose those levels at random tho. 280 to 260 has been where almost ALL the trading has occurred since volpocolypse (both buying AND selling). my guess is its a good range to get out of positions at, and these short entries, stops and targets are all designed (other than 270 which is right on because i expect resistance (AND liquidity) there) to be just on the inside of these levels to try to avoid getting mugged

if i was some big money goy, i couldnt do these levels cuz theyd come for me anyways, but for now its the safest short i can see

How do you anons DYOR? I always hear people complaining about others asking to be spoon fed information and I don't trust half of the fuckers on this board so pretty please with a green candle on top tell me the basics of evaluating companies for purchasing?

I've been learning some of the basics of this but I've never invested actual money yet. All I'm asking is what I need to know to do my own research, what should I be looking for? Is most of it speculation and trying to be one step ahead of the normies with news? That's what it feels like.

>> No.12838805

>>12838686
First step, p/e ratio and EPS. Earnings per share will tell you if the company is turning a profit or not as of the most recent quarterly earnongs call. If this is in the negative they're losing money. Not necessarily a deal breaker, it depends how much they're losing and what their potential to become profitable is. P/E should be compared against the company's peers in the same sector.

Look fir the most recent quarterly earnongs news release. See how much cash they hsve, how much debt, determine the odds that they will need to raise more money (via share dilution) to expand further. This is most applicable to new-ish companies. Check news releases for catalysts, planned partnerships, supply deals, expansions, etc. I know it sounds like a lot but omce you get used to it, it takes maybe 30 minutes to get an idea of the company's financial health.

>> No.12838849

>>12838686
Depends on what you're looking to invest in. I like bio pharma so what I do typically is read the clinical results of their pipeline, and evaluate said pipeline's potential marketability (ex: RTTR makes a drug that increases lactose tolerance, yet isn't focused on Asian markets; hence I'd evaluate it as a company with good science but bad market focus and I wouldn't long it).
For companies with incredibly specific pipeline's that I don't really understand because I don't have a degree in Internal Medicine, I typically look at the CEOs/directors, their ages/careers and how much of their net worth is tied into the company's stock.
Never bet on rich old fucks with 40 years of experience going broke.

If I were looking to break into consumer staples I'd research the direction the company is headed and see if it aligns with where I feel the consumer goods market is headed. I'd look for red flags like a recurring amount of debt/negative EPS, too much charity, too high salaries. Then I'd then research the directors, their careers, their homes, assets, families etc. and see if they're somebody I can trust is tethered to the well-being of the stock price.

If I was looking to invest in consumer electronics I'd probably do a lot of passive sociological research. Pay attention to the products I see people using around the city and colleges. Then I'd look into each company and see if their stock doesn't reflect the uptrend I've noticed, buying the dip. I also check to see if there's an increase in chinese knockoffs, because that indicates desirability.

Also, I always hear the meme about buying high and selling low. Does that mean that I should avoid buying stocks that have recently risen? I'm assuming that most people do this because they don't want to feel like they've missed the boat on a recent rise so let me give an example.

I saw a couple days ago while lurking smg that a few anons suggested IQ as a good investment, and the next day sure as shit it rose by 14% over night, and it was at 22% last time I checked. If we use this as an example, it's probably not a good idea to buy this stock now that it's risen because it will likely dip? I'm just speculating but using this example what would you guys do if you were looking into buying this stock?

Momentum trading is a good day trade strategy. If a stock is rising on news, yet isn't extremely overbought yet you can usually get a few percentiles on it before the dip. the thing with captcha is that it solves a problem that we arguably dont have
this is a crypto board. most of the spam i see here is focused around crypto. even as weve grown, we rarely get spammed by botshit like the rest of /biz/

part of the reason is because they dont really have any data on us (which is the reason i always tell people to not do those datamining surveys/test things. first comes those, then comes the spambots). so while we definitely get manual shills coming in, theyre really easy to pick out because were pretty fucking insular and have an impressive amount of OC for such a smol group (and i mean in general too. by current year 4chan standards were completely untouchable)

captchas only purpose is that it makes bot spam close to impossible without rotating proxies. even then, this slows things down considerably and with manual spammers its usually enough to fuck them off completely after they burn a couple two tree IPs.
worst of all, they chose what is possibly the most satanic of all captchas: recaptcha (hisssss)
idk if any of you post under boxxy but trying to do that with recaptcha is beyond a nightmare. they make the captcha take minutes to even load up, will throw like 20 of the "select all pics till none appear" ones, and autofail you for no reason repeatedly (even after being approved).
the only way ive ever been able to stand posting here in current year is by forcing legacy recaptcha with noscript blocking some aspects of googles botnet
and thats not even mentioning the simple fact:
CAPTCHA AFTER EVERY POST IS TOTALLY USELESS
its only necessary for new IPs or tor. doing it for every post is literally designed to discourage posts, so that they can avoid having to upgrade their servers.
and the only way out?
gib shekels to hiroshicunt

point is, while /biz/ NEEDS captcha, as well as constant moderation, we do NOT
but because were here, we gotta deal with it too
is gay tbf (also fuck wordfilters)
