People are starting to make decent returns by routing transactions over the lightning network

The amount of routing can be 10,000s of transactions per second
If you have a well connected node that's always online you can make some satoshi

This is all dependant of the fees of course
By being competitive and providing a service bitcoin will have a fully functional 2nd layer with lightning fast payments
