>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Some do some don't, but you can by bonds that are indexed to inflation like TIPS that are basically risk free. Whenever you buy normal bonds though you're making a bet on what the future of inflation looks like, though.

So I've spent around 150 dollars in robinhood and ~75 wrapped up in Acorns

I actually lost money in Robinhood (around 70 bucks thanks MGNA) and only have made a few bucks from Acorns. I just don't really want to deal with paying for a premium service with Schedule D since that's what I'm using to do my taxes still. (I just don't have complicated taxes)

>>12769922
The reason you lost money on Robinhood was because of how you chose to allocate it
Acorns probably invested it in ETFs or low risk dividend stocks, whereas you put a lot of money into one penny stock
The lesson here is get better risk management and do research on stocks before you buy them

Also, since you lost more than you made, you don't have to pay taxes on it
You can deduct money equal to your capital losses (up to a certain point) from the amount of money you have to pay on your tax return

always hold some cash so you can buy good stuff

If you have time, make a spreadsheet where you sum the positions in those funds and compare vs the S&P, compare the performance in past market conditions etc.

Besides that, you don't have any consumer staples/food funds or REITs. Lots of people that you talk to get antsy about real estate because of 2008, but right now there is no reason to expect a crash in real estate/rents that will hurt REIT income. I would look for ~10% allocation (mine is higher) for secured income during the economic slowdown.

Well there was the asbestos in baby powder thing late last year. That has probably already run its course on share price though.

I do both. Maybe more FA than standard for swing trading as i have been caught unaware by financial troubles while i was in a trade before. Halt in to bad news release in to gap down ain't no fun. Especially if the gap goes well below where your stop loss is set. The opposite scenario, stock falls on company with good earnings and medium term outlook, requieres some FA to figure out how much of the drop was reasonable, how much was panic. Coke, for instance, took a harder hit on the report from Commerce Department about alleged poor retail performance in December than i think was warranted. As it fell fairly close to a key support, i bought in late Friday and will average down to said support (if it continues to fall) where my stop loss is set. GOOS is another i plan to dip buy soon. Support situation on that one is more questionable. It could keep dropping for another few days.

This is one I was looking at as well, and wonder if it is as relevant these days as more and more people regard soft drinks as an unnecessary evil and cut them out of their lives. The literal boomers that grew up with coke are going to be told by their doctors to get off the stuff, and the millennials and zoomers seem to be more health conscious and veering away from snack food and colas.

Read some recent articles about how sizeable amounts of younger alcohol buyers are going for more spirits (liquor) compared to beer. Like a pretty sizeable swing over the past year (that wasn't priced in), one of the reasons DEO beat earnings and has been doing really well.
The cited reason is because you can get drunk with fewer calories. Anecdotally I can confirm, but I still grab a beer or 12 every once in a while.

There may be some movement downward with increasing marijuana legalization (and other rec drug legalization in the future). I'd see the downward movement as a buying opportunity. Just like cigarette companies, just like soda companies, these products print money year after year. Be smart when you buy in and it's all good.

But beer and/or spirit companies have the potential to be good buys. I don't have any specific stocks or analysis to share beyond the above.

>>12772839
We've know soda (sugar, HFCS) are not healthy for the past decade. As long as they remain cheap, I don't see any threat. Coke sales still growing even with large taxes in certain cities. Biggest threat is government regulation or taxation. The only way I see such intense gov't action that it effects soda sales is if they go nuts everywhere else (attack meat and tobacco industries as well, throw in cars and airplanes while we are at it). Unlikely enough that I'm not pricing it in.

Did some reading, but info is hard to come by. Sounds like their current trial is focused around slowing the growth of later stage prostate cancer, specifically the type that doesn't need T to thrive. I can't find any info on how big that specific market is and there's no hope as far as I can tell of figuring out how many people would actually be put on this drug but the potential is gigantic. Prostate cancer is something like 12% of all men deal with at some point. It's very early and seems like a huge gamble, but that's why there probably is a 10x upside someday because it's early and risky. I may be wrong, this is only about 20 minutes worth of googling and reading so who knows. I may throw a couple hundred in just to encourage me to keep an eye on things.

My co worker started talking to me about buying shares and getting into the stock market. I’m only 19 and he says I should start investing now that I’m young. He says to do my research and watch the news and all that stuff. One piece of advice he gave me was to invest in lithium batteries because I live in California and soon we’re going to use recyclable energy and etc. i also plan on spending 100-200 on a company just to start out but I don’t know what else to invest in or how to make a quick buck. He did tell me about day trading or something.

no to the first
not really to the second

so lets say you have 2k and they loan you 2k. in a month you have 3.5k total, you lost 500 hundred like an idiot. you just need to sell stock until you have 2k to pay them back (or continue to pay monthly for gold, but they might reduce your margin account if you lose too much).
If you end the month at 4.5k, you would need to sell until you have 2k cash to give them their 2k back to close the gold/margin part of the account.

it should all be explained in the FAQ. It's just a loan, the only complex parts are if your tier gets forcibly downsized because of losses. to close the loan you just pay them back in cash.

What do you think the final score of the game ended up being?

I like to believe it was him but no way to know. Upntil that point I bought the standard belief that the mind is a phenomenon of the brain. Now I know that's not entirely accurate and that something is going on under the hood we don't understand.

Quantum entanglement https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement
It's a quantum physics thing. Typically I don't like quantum physics things (esp multiverse) because it's become religion/magic for pseudo-intellectuals.

Basically they've done stuff where if you take 2 groups of people and have them guess stuff, then take one group and show them the correct answers, then that group will have scored statistically higher than the group that was not shown the answers after the test.
Apparently our perception of time isn't strictly linear.

I've had plenty of instances where I've gotten really into a subject or something and then the very day there's some massive news event regarding that subject.
In 2014 I wrote down on a whiteboard in my room "mine bitcoin this summer" for no apparent
reason.

Closest state is MA and that's a 5 hour drive for me one way, not really worth it desu.

Okay so what's the deal here? Never traded stocks before, only crypto, how do you guys make money? Stocks, options, daytrading, leverage, certain kind of stocks?

Yes, I've had a lot of synchronicity events but this one was the most specific and evidential. It wasn't just a latent mind thing.

It's just an event that keeps the mind open. I don't find the thought of a creative God that works in subtleties to be all that far fetched.

Nice numbers. That's good. You're lucky. That will help.

High risk high reward strategies involve identifying bubbles; 2017 battery metals, 2016 to present dude weed. Options trading.

Medium risk is trading leveraged ETFs and medium to large cap growth stocks.

Low risk is non-leveraged index ETFs, blue chips with good dividends, going long on consumer non-cyclicals preferably with good dividends, bonds. Main idea here is compounding interest over an extended period of time.

Did you read the article? Cause if you did you would know that this is nothing and that negotiations are still ongoing with the President signalling that he may continue to delay tariffs. This will knock us back a couple percent but will amount to nothing.

it's a little known fact of our world that the universe isn't a completely coherent place.
what zizek says about quantum physics here is my favorite commentary on this

>little known fact of our world that the universe isn't a completely coherent place

That's the kind of smug bullshit that makes me hate quantum physics. Whenever someone says this shit I feel like I'm watching an episode of The Big Bang Theory or Family Guy.

I'll bet my dick that the universe is coherent but we just can't see it objectively. Why would anybody assume that a form of mathematics based on the number of phalanges that a random carbon-based organism on a random planet have and an astronomy based on the 5 senses said random carbon-based organism possesses, is the absolute correct and foolproof way of determining the complete and total reality that the known universe exists in?

Actually it's a line I adopted from a twilight zone episode that may or may not have aired.

To a great extent modern physics isn't dependent on base ten numbers, nor is it dependent on just what we physically can sense. Hence we're able to detect gravity waves and higgs bozon, ect.

People have been using all kinds of unintuitive methods of reasoning and understanding since the demise of euclidian geometry to understand our universe. It's not that these methods of understanding do not work, they do, it's simply the case that there is no way we are able to coherently piece together all of the different descriptions of physical phenomena. I don't think we ever will find a way to reconcile gravity and quantum physics, but even if we do, the fundamental stochasticity and non-local action implicit in the quantum model, which we are pretty certain exists, means that there will always be some things we cannot explain beyond. There's a limit to how we can reduce things, and to some extent this randomness also undermines our more generalized descriptions of the larger world. For example, the second law of thermodynamics can occasionally be broken by pure chance, that once in a very long while things will become more orderly, not less.
