12631288 No.12631288 [Reply] [Original]

I'm making this post to give Linkies some information I've garnered by being in contact with the team and in working for one of the most influential blockchain consulting firms in the space.

My company is preparing to put a bid in for a major blockchain project in the European financial space (I'm deliberately being vague, again, for anonymity sake). I want to keep this post accessible to even the least tech-savvy enthusiasts, so I'll try to write in as layman a way as possible (but am happy to answer questions in more detail in responses). Currently, hyperledger has an issue with only being able to handle a few txns per second. Our load testing on enterprise applications, the ones Sergey speaks of when he says something to the effect of "interesting use cases that can be done with smart contracts beyond the scope of tokenization" indicate our fabric networks can handle ~20txns/s (up from about 2 txns/s last year). Obviously this is still a long ways off from having major far-reaching utility in changing how things are currently done. At our current state, we simply cannot create the applications we really want to. What we are doing to compensate is making largely centralized applications with a slight amount of blockchain flavor, but we really cant make the enterpirse use cases that will truly usher in what can be considered "the 4th Industrial Revolution."

>> No.12631291

This is where ChainLink and Town Crier come in. With TEEs, ChainLink offers a viable and exciting solution to this issue by allowing millions of computations to occur offchain and effectvely representing all of those computations as one transaction on the chain. I won't get much more technical, but JUST RECENTLY, many of the 'higher ups' at my company have discovered and expressed a lot of interest in ChainLink. After having correspondance with the team for several months, I am giving an informational presentation regarding ChainLink to the company founders and execs as it seems very likely we will be soliciting the team's help in several of our existing projects (Fortune 100 companies) and especially in this large project for which we will be bidding.

I will return Monday evening to give a summary of how the presentation goes, but if we do end up using ChainLink, this will immediately put ChainLink as our de-facto standard oracle provider into blockchain projects that are already underway that are worth many billions of dollars. Ill post a pic in the thread with Sergey viewing my LinkedIn profile so you will know it was me and everyone else is a larp.

I'm actually more qualified to talk about this than most anons.I'm employed with a cyber-techno machinations company, I do a lot of security analyst programming type work. Open source, decentralized, APIs, partnerships, you name it. We'd be one of the first companies in line for something like Chainlink, if the decentralized smart contract space had more value over traditional data exchanges. There's a catch though, an underlying flaw more deeply embedded in the bedrock of LINK than the very code itself. The flaw is with the concept, and it's this: Companies won't actually go through the hassle of trusting their data API's through crypto.

Now I can already hear your keyboards going frantic, but hear me out. /biz/ hates banks, and traditional data providers. But actual companies, businesses, and investors do not. There's an old saying you might have heard of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". The idea that any of our bosses would give us the go ahead if we approached them to put our companies valuable data in a smart contract on a cryptocurrency called Chainlink, that they've never heard of, we'd be laughed out at best and fired on the spot at worst. We already have API data buyers and providers we trust.

'But Chainlink is trustless!' I hear you cry, but is that really a good thing? Just listen to the sound of it. Businesses don't want to spend millions of dollars on something that is trustLESS, they want something trustFUL. 'But the reputation system!', doesn't that defeat the whole point of your coin? If companies only trust nodes with high reputation, what's the difference between trusting banks and data providers that already have reputation, but in real life not on a computer screen.

The fact is, LINK is going to share the same fate as ETH will. A lot of 'real world application' hype, with a lot of 'crypto world application' reality. Only, this billion supply coin isn't going to come close to the $1k that Etherum hit. Happy gambling though anons.
