I'm a Barber. I work at a shop that is failing not only due to local economic problems, but also the owners utter lack of taste. It looks like a joke from 2004. He handed out "Loyalty" cards for free haircuts years ago and people are still using them and I'm not being paid for those cuts. He expects me to take the financial hit so he can keep the few people that still show up. I'm currently talking to another shop so I can leave that sinking shithole and have better opportunities going forward in my career. I had heard rumor about the difficulty level at which working for him was, but I didn't believe it. He seemed nice, but it's just a way to reel you into his shop so he can give your effort away for free to whoever he wants without any kind of repayment. I'm not hourly. I eat what I kill and the fuck is taking the food off my plate so he can flaunt it at church and other social functions. He has gone so far to save his rat hole business that he had put in a gimmick that he thinks will get us more haircuts, but will only turn barbers into gamestop employees. I didn't go to barber school to hook up all your fucking Xboxes and sync your goddamned controllers, much less without compensation. Video games have nothing to do with the operation of a barbershop.

The problem is telling them that I'm leaving. I'm a massive pussy when it comes to that shit. Also, any other barbers have to put up with this type of shit? or would you just say "peace out" and take your shit with you. Because I feel as soon as I say I'm leaving they'll just fire me on the spot anyway.

Suggestions?

Pic related as in the lighting in the shop is more suited for a Nickelback concert than a barbershop.

Are you under contract? If so, follow the clause to quit the job. If not, tell him to fuck off and go away

Youre probably the only barber here, what kind of advice did you expect? Youve already described your problem as "[You're] a pussy". Do you just want 50 posts telling you to nut up and quit?

Get the job at the other shop lined up, then put in your 2 weeks. If they fire you on the spot, then say peace and start at your next job.

If your problem is telling them you are leaving, then you just gotta deal with it like all of us do. It can be a little nerve wracking knowing you're leaving the stability of one job for another, and sometimes being nervous that you have to bring up that convo of quitting. But it's just one of those things you just gotta grab your balls and do. Good luck.

And if you really can't do the obvious which is this. Lie and say you're moving states or some shit. Can't really get mad at you if it's something out of your control.
