I did some research on some of the "Nicer" places in Ohio and assuming you had even like 10-20k in savings to put a down payment on a 100k home. Your rent per month including utilities and a 30yr/m would only be around 500-750 a month which is livable at around 12.50 an hour. The rest of the budget is up to what you prioritize but COL is low in some areas. Just make sure you border PA for work in areas up there because Ohio is lacking.

The worst part is I have programming experience yet ended up here. Can't find a job to save my life. I used to make $25/hr and now I make close to nothing. Trust me I tried. I have depression and can't pretend to be excited during interviews and programming has gimped my opportunity to get any decent non-programming job. and I can't get a decent programming job because of my bad interview skills. Yes I found this shit out, programming is a fucking trap unless you have the best connections in the world or you simply luck out. I saw my fucking wages drop each god damn fucking year. I fell for the con because my starting pay was higher than all my peers. then it ended up below theirs. It's humiliating. I tried to escape programming world but it now haunts me on my resume. People simply won't hire programmers for their labor job because they think you will leave them for a programming job. I fucked my life over by ever getting into programming.

Not only is coding often outsourced, it is hard to learn and without a degree in this field, you often hit a glass ceiling after a couple of years doing it. Also, many people with a degree in math, physics etc. compete for the same positions.

But being able to code "a bit" while pursuing different fields yield enormous benefits. I have a degree in finance & controlling and automate many tasks in the company I work in with VBA and scripts in AutoIt. Or handle the financial data in a OLAP-cube in fucking Access (migrated everything on a SQL server in November).

A full blown developer would laugh at the simplicity of the code I write, but would absolutely know shit about what the handled data mean, so he could not reproduce it without someone guiding him. A pure finance-graduate on the other hand would know how to handle the data, but would need hours or even days to get to the same result.

So yes, coding is a skill you absolutely want.

VBA and SQL are basically the most useful among those you listet, if you work in a non-development-enviroment. VBA works on every pc with office installed and Access with SQL is enough to handle a surprisingly huge amount of data.

Combine both and you easily can do the work of several people in the fraction of a time, after some time. It however takes a bit of time to ramp up, if you are new to this.
