Semi fluent Chinese speaker here. I studied it at university in the US, spent time at a Chinese Uno in Beijing studying, lived in China, etc.

You aren’t going to learn Chinese doing duolingo or taking a couple classes. It’s a nightmare and nothing but full time study and immersion will get you anywhere worthwhile. I’m sorry, and trust me, I wish it were easier but it is what it is.
