The chances of winning the lottery are near zero.

It's not zero, so some people do win. If you buy $10 worth of lottery every week that's $520 a year. Say you buy it for 10 years (and the chances of winning are so low you will almost certainly not win big during this time). That's $5200 that could have gone towards investing that money somewhere else.

But in reality, the more you play the more fucked you become.

The expected value of your ticket is probably like 5 cents on the dollar really, maybe a little more if your state's trying to sucker you in by making the lower tier prizes hit more often.

It's no different than a casino really. Think about the people that get down a hundred bucks or so. Some of them are probably starting to get a little anxiety.

"Fuck, I just want my money back and then I'll call quits"

And that's the catch with expected values. The more often you play the less likely standard deviation will ever swing in your favor and the more likely you fall into the trend line of the expected value and lose even more money.

Literally buy 1 ticket for your birthday and never fucking think about doing it again unless you like throwing away your money.

Because casinos have a better return on investment in the short term. Lottery is super long term and it may never pay off.

Since all the wankers who win the lottery almost always end up killed or lose it all if they go public, then why doesn't someone (if you're in a state/country that doesn't allow you to hide your identity if you win) sell the ticket to some nigger for 100k (for example). Then you won't have to worry about friends and family jewing you and the world will never know to try and kill you
