>be me
>Dig holes 12 hours a day every day, on the road living out of hotel with crew, in Pacific Northwest so everything is expensive and there's a cold rain almost 24/7/365
>Get cuts and bruises and injuries and semi-electrocutions all the time
>Work so hard I hallucinate religious experiences weekly
>Make $10 an hour

>Quit
>New job is Chinese food delivery
>Get $5 tip almost every time
>Make 4-5 deliveries an hour
>Get $8/hr base pay
>Live in Midwest now where everything is cheap

>I drive a tiny car and ring doorbells for like $30 an hour when I used to nearly die every day for peanuts

I am literally pretty angry about this, my life will be much better now but still... Goddammit I had no idea how much money people that get tips make and I had no idea how easy their fucking jobs are

this was me at age 19. Did overnight stocking at a Sam's Club, worst job ever, 9$ an hour.

Then served at a dirty Mexican restaurant - easy job, surrounded by roasties (gift and curse), infinite smoke (smoke MID nigga) breaks, and more $$$$$.

this *whole* economy is a scam. For better or worse! never forget that.

try being an underground poker dealer. the easiest fucking money youll ever make.

I'd have killed myself. You seriously make like 30 an hr with tips tho?
Fuck. That depresses me. I went to fucking school to be an electrician and many CAP at 30 an hr AFTER becoming a journeyman. They start you off at 14 an hr and for the work you do, it sucks big hairy balls.

Goddamn it.

Hey also, you probably make MORE than someone making 30 an hr from some employer due to retarded fucking taxes.

Do you report tips on your taxes?

Its because OP isnt paying taxes on the tips.

Bartenders can make upwards of 4000 a month net because most will not claim the tips. When buying in cash there really isnt a trail to prove you ever had the money. Just dont go buying fancy cars and shit.

Sounds comfy, if you don't mind smoking 4 packs a day secondhand. Got any stories?

Barbershop near me only accepts cash and they are busy 24/7. They make save so much $$$ not reporting how much they actually make.

People get paid $8 an hour to clean shit from old people's asses in nursing homes

The more kinds of jobs you have the more you realize how uneven the economy is

Just looked it up and ya, I guess you do have to pay taxes on your tip money.
Fuck it, I guess I'll stick with the electrical trade.
>>12531158
Yep... pic related. Many jobs want you to work hard for peanuts. I live in LA so it sucks hard here. 3/4 jobs paid under 15 an hr. Hoping I can get into this one union that caps at 44.35 an hr after 3.5 yrs. Everyone Ik got in. I'll be pretty pissed if they don't like me in my interview in 2 months.

A good trade will eventually pay more than delivering food yeah of course

The effort difference is the main quality of life thing that I'm speechless about

Cocksuckers that do the job I do think it's immoral not to tip, meanwhile were just stoned as shit driving a glorified gokart and collecting cash for fucks sake it's goddamn fun

so all waymen are really recording and holding their tip money to pay taxes?

imagine if they did..
i wonder what the real data would look like.

Fuck countries that have a tip culture.
Before you respond: Unless you tip your bus driver just shut the fuck up.

For a delivery job? He's using his own car and gas. Even on a shitbox, that's 1200$/year in repairs and an extra 1500-2500$ in gas

OH NO!!! $50-60 a week in expenses?!?!? OH NO THATS LIKE $1.60/hr in job expenses. Cleary this makes delivery driving not worth it..

Anyway seconded, I got my first pizza delivery gig last year, clear 2k a month just working weekends, pretty sweet.

I waited tables for a while and made like $11/hr.

A few years back I learned how to put down hardwood floors and now I make $50/hr.

I feel the same capitalism doesn't really value hard work, it values getting in to an in demand field and knowing your worth.

my biggest regret is not doing a trade at age 18
