Is it worth getting a hardware wallet? If so, which ones do you guys use?

I've been looking at the new Ledger Nano X and it looks pretty neat. I want something that can hold erc20 alts and the blue chips like BTC and XMR. But, i'm not too well versed in hardware wallets and, admittedly, Ledger's website was plastered all over google searches, so I'm open to suggestions.

Also, what do you guys do for physical security? Stuff it in a box under the bed? Multiple hardware wallets? Bank vault?

Get the Skycoin one, it's like 30 bucks and better build quality.

The Skywallet is better quality and cheaper, and $SKY is the only thing worth holding anyway. Everything else is vaporware.

OP i have the trezor & ledger, get the Trezor, its open source & out for years.
I have ordered the nano X BUT I am not using it as my primary. Wait till people can try to hack it. Its probably going to be fine, but why risk it. Also no matter what you need a 'vault' the old ones are perfect for that!

Ledger is great for shitcoins though...

Initially just $SKY. The first firmware updates will support BTC (and its forks) plus ETH (and ERC20 tokens).

Other coins with their own blockchains will require more integration work and will be added later.

Good idea m8, didn't one of the recent ones have a vulnerability last release? Also, Trezor Model T looks pretty legit as well, considering buying that one now too.

I must admit, I've never used one before. Any suggestions? Are there any good hardware Vaults to consider or should I use Coinbase (which I believe insures your vault?) or is there a good Vault I can download online?

Just buy a Trezor! the X is not out of a bit anywho so I would say get the trezor & wait for the nano X, it can take 100 apps. The current Nano S you can only have 5 app installed. Let me explain, you can leave your crypto on there but if you want to put a 6th crypto on the ledger you have to uninstall the app, install the other app, then if you want to access the crypto but you deleted the app on the ledger you have un install one and reinstall...its not difficult just simply a pain!

Nano S only holds 2-3 assets now. If most of your shitcoins are erc-20 they all fit on your ethereum wallet.

Although not perfect, ledger has the best products. Trezor being a close #2

It's not a big issue but some people care about having access to all their shitcoin wallet private keys 100% of the time. Truth is that once you obtain your public address you don't need to keep the wallet installed on your ledger for it to work. Exception to this would be BTC if you care to obtain a new public key for every transaction.

I don't have my XMR on my ledger but it supports it RN! Your going to have to the the Ledger if you want XMR support RN! 0 point in the model t...you don't know when the wallet will come out

hardware wallets are just for convenience and peace of mind. you can get better security with different offline key generation methods, like booting from tails OS and creating an electrum wallet on an airgapped computer. but that can be a big hassle when you want to buy a coffee or some small item.

with that said. ledger has been shitting the bed lately with their recent firmware release. plus you have to download software now to use with the hardware device that tracks certain user data and sends it back to their servers. you cant opt out of this.

Trezor has more open source code, but is also been shitting the bed with recent exploits found by wallet.fail

however, they seem to be going in the right direction by supporting offline signing of tranasaction with their Trezor model T. they also dont require you to download software to use the wallet accept a bridge application. most of their software is in browser, and there's no usage reports sent back their servers...yet.
shop.

best one on the market is probably the Trezor Model T at the moment.
