How likely do you view a backtrack being able to take place? From my eyes, the pendulum has already started to move- corporations have direct access to financing undeveloped portions of the world, through smart contracts, with an immutable claim to the respective countries assets. I don't see a "backtrack" being a real scenario.

The term is not in my vocabulary. I understand the most basic term and maybe what you mean by backtracking. If that is what you mean then yes, this is one of the initial motivations of Sergey. Drunk too so apologies for any confusion. I used backtrack in relation to your original post, in the sense of corporations reversing and saying smartcontracts/oracles are not necessary. There is a clear value proposition so I don't see that being a real scenario. I agree the act of "backing out of deal" was an original problem sergey sought out to solve, but I also believe corps see smartcontracts as a way to gain immutable access to financing opportunities, that they wouldn't normally take on in the current system, because of that core principle. Your sheep herder in Uganda can no longer back out of an already financed deal to sell wool to the US because a smart contract removes the trust from both parties.

There will be lots of pooling services appearing after mainnet, it's just that linkpool is the first and has been in development for a long time. LP share holders will be able to stake their linkies right away, which is a pretty big deal and it's why I'm accumulating to 1 LP share but probably no more.
If I recall correctly, part of the reason for linkpool's shares is to limit how much power linkpool have over the market and to keep it more decentralised. If they kept it open to everyone on mainnet then there would be so many normies using the service.
Also don't feel bad, Johnny from linkpool is now a part of the chainlink team, so Sergey obviously doesn't mind the project.
