Smug Bull Status: Extinct Edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, Ratsu has the IQ of swiss cheese, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

There’s nothing wrong with owning SPY and QQQ. But by definition, you won’t beat the market by owning them, because by owning them you own the market.

The only way to beat the market consistently is to dig deep and research individual companies. Mostly small companies that have tremendous growth potential or new, groundbreaking technology. You need to get in while the market cap is too small for institutional investors. The failure rate of this approach for most individual investors is very high, so the best avenue is to own broad market ETFs.

Now consider that it has stopped publishing its sales numbers for that product, and that the way it is growing its revenue in the last few years is by just increasing the price, and by having software updates that intentionally slow down old phones to force them to be obsolete after a couple of years. But now that I reflect on just how much Republicans have been sucking on his wrinkly old dick, I would not be surprised if 1/3 senate give him a pass on all the crimes he's committed in and out of office. in the long term, the market has always gone up. even if you bought the 3-month high, you will probably have profited in a year, and definitely will have in 3 years, maybe more if we go full recession mode. if you didnt buy the top, it will be much sooner, and if you buy the dip to cost average down, thats even more profit

personally i still buy some individual stocks for high div or if i think its undervalued, but sometimes that leads to me panic selling and reducing overall returns

some of the more rabid democrats want investigations to be some sort of deux ex machina to undo the 2016 election, but thats delusional at best

>it is illegal for a sitting president to be prosecuted of a crime
>a 2/3rds of votes by the senate is needed for any impeachment of a sitting president

as long as 1/3 of the senate is against impeachment (2/3rds of any single party, since party whips get rid of the possibility of 1/3rd of each party) he will not be removed

while i applaud every bit of the swamp that the investigations drains, its retarded to believe it will end with trump in jail or prison

also a pence presidency would be far more scary to anyone who hates trump than trump's will ever be

with any luck 2020 presidential election will be between three viable candidates (either Trump as a strong third party candidate because republican party revolt, or a "moderate" republican running as third party (or a demecrat running against a dem ticket clinton, winning more votes than she gets, but splitting the vote in trump's favor))

also impeachment proceedings will hurt stock market more than any action that the president takes can

sound theory, and historical (accuracy foolish to assume it will always be true, but if a trend a few hundred (arguably thousand) years old is becoming false, then i got bigger problems to worry about than money)

assuming equal equity positions in all stocks consider two scenarios:
1. 100% of portfolio is stock XYZ
2. 50% of portfolio is stock XYZ, 50% is stock ZYX

in scenario 1, you need 100% of stock picks to be positive (increase in value by the time you sell)
possible outcomes are : 1/2 chance negative, 1/2 positive (ignoring positive or negative magnitudes (aka %change of stock's value))
in scenario 2, you only need 50% of picks to be true
you have three outcomes:1/4 chance you get two positive outcomes, so double gains (again ignoring magnitude of %change), 1/4 chance you get two negative, and 2*(1/4) chance you get one positive, one negative (no change compared to holding strait cash)
adding a third possibility, neutral (sideways), to each stocks movement over time, the total balance between positive and negative outcomes does not get unbalanced)

as you increase the number of stocks you hold (keeping an equal weight of each stock), your need to correctly guess if a stock will go up or down decreases as you add more stocks to hold
even as you strip away assumptions about magnitudes above, historical data shows that net positive is still the more likely outcome for a majority of stocks

based on historical movement, and because of the larger number of neutral outcomes as you pick more stocks, your probability of having a positive outcome tends to be higher than your possibility of having a total sum of negative outcomes

just look up random portfolios, google has plenty of examples, an I'm too lazy to type more
