yes, VIX and oil futures are often in contango (future month contract prices higher than current month) so it costs money to hold the contract. there is a decay of sorts. the opposite is backwardation. with these sorts of things, you need to get the timing and direction right to make money.

i have no idea where oil is going in the future, but i stay away from it because of the reasons already listed.

Pretty good. My stop-buy on Tetra BioPharma didn't work out so hot as it immediately dumped after breaking that resistance point. Plus shorts downticked it with an MOC for good measure. No problem though, I doubled up on the day's low and shouldn't have any issue making this a break even trade if the wind blows in the wrong direction.

Other trades worked out great. GTII and GOOS both put in nice solid green. TRUL as well. Sold Origin House to close off that position at decent profit. Overall happy with this to end 2018.

To deal with trade war risk I've been looking for US stocks that have little chinese exposure, specifically Cracker Barrel, Dollar General and Verisk Analytics. Dollar General is probably my favorite out of the three, since it will also excel in a recession and I already pulled out of cracker barrel at its year highs.

More directly, maybe look for inverse etfs for Chinese stocks, and place bets on falling prices on industrial metals like steel and aluminium.
