this era of volatility shall be remembered as the........Golden Milk Run......!

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

True. When considering US stocks I have to factor in the forex situation. If the upside isn't amazing it generally isn't worth it for me to buy it. I could open a US account to avoid that but I haven't found it to be necessary as yet.

>you forget intellectual capital, the knowledge and skills of those that get displaced
Most of that's held by ordinary workers. The amount of skills and intellect held by the capitalist class is greatly overstated.

>in theory, but it never ends up that way once one bad actor gets in the top (or someone in the top becomes a bad actor)
If you're referring to Stalin and the soviet Nomenklatura, this came about as the result of the leninist party that was necessary to win the Russian civil war. It's bureaucratic nature was generalized as the state found itself in control of most resources and realized it still needed to industrialize. This form of coordination was driven by a logic to catch up to advanced industrial capitalism. For the most part, the people on top were not bad actors, Stalin perused this policy with sincerity, even if he was chiefly concerned with his own self preservation. The crimes of stalin were chiefly the purging and murder of his fellow socialists, more than stuff that can be rationalized with economic necessity.

The soviet system was driven more by it's systemic logic than Stalin's bad intentions. The only real case you can find for that kind of critique is Mao's pushing through of the great leap forward, which was disliked by the bureaucracy at large and included many of Mao's own prejudices and incompetency. But the Chinese system was also far more decentralized than the USSR, in many ways, it was this decentralization far more than the inherit centralization of communism that doomed the great leap forward. It's system was less developed, and its logic thus less powerful. The horror of the great leap forward was perhaps more comparable to War Communism than the famines of the 30s in Russia for that reason.

>> No.12272048

>>12271142
>>12272041
Anyway, sorry for waxing on with that point. The bigger issue is that, within the framework born from the leninist party and semi-feudal russia, the USSR was characterized by a systemic logic in service of that working class. That framework is gone, and in it's place is the corporate dominated society of advanced capitalist countries. Working class expropriation in this context is the most healthy thing for our society, and the system it'd produce would likely be far more dynamic and democratic then what appeared in communist bloc.

unfortunately the nature of predictions and the the difficulty in knowing the timing means that you can loose quite a bit of money before your prediction comes true. 100 shares at $5 = $500

100 shares at $10 = $1000
+
100 shares at $20 = $2000

Cost: $3500

Cost divided by number of shares is your cost average. That's be $11.67/share. You paid 11.67/share for 300 shares. Doesn't matter how many orders you made to arrive at that number of shares or when you bought them. 1 share as far as the market is concerned is 1 share. We're in the longest history of peace the world has ever seen and everyone is better for it because we can invest our time in money into things other then killing each other like animals. For literally all of recorded history and probably far before that we've had "hard times" and all it lead to was slackjawwed imbreds dicking around while governments and nobility reaped the rewards. Then all of these fatass WW2 LARPers came and started praying for the world to crumble around them instead of trying to make it better. Check out SN for a quick 1-3 day trade.. if oil recovers.. shorts are in a tight position.. the company has lots of revenue but the company all together is shit! the shorts have been hitting it hard as fuck.. i've been trying to hit the short squeeze on the way down with no luck.. only to break even... it's getting to the point though where market cap is going to get too small for shorts and the stock could possibly fly.... long term investment? NO.. i don't want anyone thinking SN is a long term investment.. they may have a lot of revenue.. like alot alot compared to their market cap.. but they have alot of expenses and debt.... Still could make for a very nice short term trade.... Just want to make it clear.. it's not a long term investment.. JUST A TRADE!! this thread seems to mix that up...

>Does a weekly .7% gain sound plausible to achieve in the market?

A weekly gain of .7% would be an annual gain of 36.4%, which is very difficult to achieve. The issue isn't that stocks can't go up .7% in a week, they easily can, the issue is that they aren't that consistent. What stops people from getting 36.4% annual returns isn't that stocks don't go up fast enough, it's that they also spend a decent bit of time going down. Even if you trade options or highly volatile stocks, over a long enough period of time, you're still most likely going to make incorrect decisions about when to buy/sell often enough that your gains won't be that high.

At the end of the day the "data" is whatever the fuck we want it to be. Ever heard of cooking the books? Fundamentals can LOOK very strong, but right now people are scared as shit and the market is reflecting it. 1, never go all in in anything, diversify your portfolio
2, it's a very precarious kind of business. Costs are going up all the time as it gets harder and harder to get the same amount of gold from the same amount or ore, requiring more expensive and sophisticated technology. The margin of profit differs wildly as the price of gold fluctuates. Even if, for example, a couple miners re-open old Welsh mines and score a lot of profits that way it will only come at the expense of their competitors. But if you only invest in them you're also increasing your risk with lower diversification.

In short, just buy gold if you want to invest in gold.

You would have to have an impressive winning streak, anon. I suppose the way you'd go about it without options would be to invest in highly volatile assets and set standing limit orders to get a .7% gain after fees. The issue is you'd probably need a lot of money to do that, since fees for buying and selling would be about 10 bucks at most places, and robinhood has apparently been about exactly fulfilling these kinds of orders. But even then it'd still take a lot of luck because there are just some weeks that do nothing but go down. You'd have to be careful to minimize losses or else you would spend all your time just trying to dig yourself out of the hole.

If it was easy, everyone would do it, after all.

all of muh research says that plat is bigger on the first bump going INTO the recession. you buy gold at the bottom of the big one™ and hold for the recession.

also, plat is more precious of a metal and lso has more industrial uses. until like 3 years ago, plat spot was valued higher thn golds like 90% of history. everyones been talking about the MS "whistleblower" who said that shit about the silver being shorted into nothing (smells like a trap to me desu), but unlike all other precious metals, plat doesnt have the massive infrastructure of shills trying to get you to buy it like gold and silver do. not to mention whats gonna happen when south africa (the cunt with the most plat mines) goes full zimbabwe.

Correct. Dividends are for idiots that never researched what total return means and how taxes work. All that matters is total returns. If you need money for some reason you can just sell things. 2) Most likely scenario. Similar to previous historic returns. 6-7% return over my working career.
3) Best possible scenario. Everything aligns perfectly/some new paradigm. 8-9% return over my working career.
