>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I fully intend to use this upcoming bear market to invest in index funds and other dividend stocks, but I don't understand people are so adamant about buying throughout a dip and justifying it through averaging and slow-but-steady returns.

If it's evident that things are probably going to slide for several more weeks or months, what harm does it do me to wait it out a little longer? Maybe I'll miss a dividend payout or two, but those dividends likely won't cancel out the losses. Timing the market is obviously not entirely possible, but I feel like there are more ideal and less ideal entry points in a market like this.

so i'm watching the first shkreli video and he's getting to enterprise value.

his argument is that cash isn't really part of a company's value. it's more like a discount. debt though is part of the value because it's part of the price. when you buy a $15k house with a $5k loan against it, you're buying the house for $20k. that makes sense, kind of.

what i'm wondering though is... how does this not violate the efficient market theory? isn't he assuming "cash and debt aren't priced in"?

Of course i like to see higher share prices because it means my net worth goes up, but right now, during this bear market, I don't care about share price. I look at PEG, forward P/E and yield of companies I know will be around for the next 20-30 years (the PGs, KOs, JNJs, AAPLs, MSFTs, etc)

NAFLD (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) is a very common and often symptomless disease caused by the buildup of fat in the liver. In some cases, people with NAFLD will develop NASH (Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis), in which inflammation and liver cell damage are present in addition to the buildup of fat in the liver. In its later stages, people with NASH can develop fibrosis (scarring) in their livers, which can in severe cases progress to liver cirrhosis, an extremely serious and life-threatening condition. The NASH market is forecasted to be worth $20-$35 billion dollars by 2025, and most large players in the NASH space (MDGL, ICPT, VKTX, etc) are focused on treating fibrosis and preventing progression to cirrhosis. One example of a company focused primarily on treating cirrhosis, however, is GALT.

GALT's sole competitors in the NASH cirrhosis space are CNAT and Gilead. CNAT missed primary endpoints in its most recent clinical trial, and Gilead's NASH drug has shown mixed results in clinical trials. GALT's primary drug of interest, GR-MD-02, works by inhibiting the action of galectin-3, a molecule implicated in a wide variety of diseases, including NASH, cancer, fibrosis, endometriosis, and asthma. In a phase 2 clinical trial of GR-MD-02 for the treatment of NASH cirrhosis, GR-MD-02 showed a statistically significant and promising effect in the reduction of hepatocyte ballooning (occurs when hepatocytes, a type of liver cell, increase in size and then explode and die) and in preventing the formation of esophageal varices (enlarged veins in the esophagus that can rupture and cause life-threatening bleeding). It did, however, miss its primary endpoint in the reduction of HVPG (hepatic venous pressure gradient). This may have occured due to an error in trial design. Per recently published FDA guidelines, phase 2 NASH clinical trials should last 12-18 months, which GALT's trial did not. Additionally, its effects in the reduction of hepatocyte ballooning and preventing the formation of esophageal varices were promising enough that GALT has moved onto Phase 3 clinical trials in NASH. In addition to NASH, GR-MD-02 has shown promising results in the treatment of melanoma and head and neck cancer, significant increasing Keytruda's response rate in a recent combination trial. GR-MD-02 is safe (producing little to no significant side effects) and relatively inexpensive to produce (being derived from apple pectin).

You don’t actually need a fuck ton of money to generate a useful amount of divvies. Add up all your static bills you have, excluding food/rent, and I bet you could cover your expenses for less than $500 a month. That’s “only” $120k, which if you’re a young guy you could grind out in 6-7 years.
