Elaborate more.
If it is the usual "content creator" or "youtube musician"-stuff, then treat it as a hobby first.

I'm hesitant to elaborate too much because I don't want anyone to steal my idea. Basically its like creating a "best of" youtube channel for my chosen music genre. And once I hit 100k subs I'll send bands requests to feature their music for $100 or more. The main issue I can think of is that it just won't be very profitable.

I had the same issue with my ideas - but as long as it is not patentable or dependent on secrets, no one gives a fuck. My first business idea was a bluetooth-tracker for teachers to track the location of their kids while doing trips. I trashed it years ago (for several very good reasons) and talked to maybe a couple of hundreds of people - nobody ever picked up this idea.

How many people listen to this music?
How many of them use youtube?
What will you do, when you run out of bands to feature and you are not big enough yet?
How will you promote your channel?

Tbh. do it as a hobby and see how far you can go when you do it casually. It is very likely not a business idea from which you can pay your rent from. Feel free to prove me otherwise ofc., but you need to be exceptionally funny/impressive/creative (insert another 20 attributes) and have connections to make this a business.

That idea sounds good.

But anyway your questions hit upon the main problem I think, my interest might be too niche. I'm sure it would be profitable but not enough. I could definitely get 100k subs considering the subs of other channels in my niche. Anyway here is an example of something SIMILAR to what I was thinking of doing: https://www.youtube.com/user/HungOverGargoyle/videos.. I can see bands paying to get their stuff featured here.

you’re ignoring my earlier post >>12241587

there is NO WAY to do this in 2018. you’ll get three strikes in a day and your account will be banned before you hit 50 subs. you’ll never make money off another company’s property.

The monetisation doesn't come from YouTube. You've misread.

>> No.12242119

>>12242099
Let me rephrase - you cannot curate another company’s property on your own channel. Even if it’s demonitized, you are still making profit off it and labels won’t like that. Maybe if you’re only curating smaller acts, but then I suspect you won’t build as big of a subscriber base.

Regardless of if there are ads, the algorithm will catch copywrited content
and it will be removed.

There are channels in my niche that rip full albums though. And a ton of X niche mix compilations

It not only will not be profitable but also it won't even reach that many views, not in a short time at least. If it does reach 100k views then you will have to find a band willingly to pay 100 dollars or more which seems challenging. You are looking at least 1 year to make 100 dollars in a very positive scenario

>trying to profit off copyrighted music off a platform like YT
this is almost as bad as child molestation in current year, you'd be shut down so fast
