people get confused because they think that xrp is bound to succeed because it was created and is backed by ripple.

the problem is reversed. ripple isn't making money, they rely on trying to push xrp into businesses or banks (which isn't currently going well) so they can sell some of their 70-80% of the xrp tokens in order to actually survive as a company and pay their bills.

xrp is ripple's only lifeline, and xrp itself isn't getting anything out of that relationship, other than a few billion coins being liquidated by ripple every few months.
