What do you think happens when block rewards become tiny in bitcoin? Mining pools just pack it up and go home? They aren't going to give up their multi billion dollar cash cow (the only reason for bitcoin's continued existence) that easily. There will be an enormous campaign to raise the 21 million cap, and miners will ultimately get what they want. Users who disagree will be helpless because they need the hashrate to protect the network.

Don't forget that Ripple will be spending billions of dollars to drive adoption of XRP and build out the ecosystem. That money going to miners? It's either put in their own pocketbooks or sent to an electric company. None of that gets reinvested in bitcoin or into businesses that are trying to build on top of it.
