Do men in the business world really care about the watch you wear? Do they really judge if you have a Rolex or a Seiko?

>> No.12175756

>>12175744
some are judging everything, just like the kids in middle school thought they could define themselves by wearing a certain brands
but you dont have to care and you dont have to play their game
they can still try to bully you but if you were bullied in middle school thats just laughable

>> No.12175783

in my experience the men who have fancy watches care about your watch, and the ones that don't have one don't care

but, having a nice watch makes you instantly more trustworthy and more legit in the eyes of the watch-havers, so it pays off in that sense if you are selling to them

I got a high position in my company, even when I was less qualified than the other applicants, just because of my Rolex because the big boss who interviewed me also wore one. We talked like 15 minutes about our watches and compared them too

I think it is the law of attraction. People see your rolex and they can tell you are succesful: you are a big player, you are rich etc. they want to be around you. It has something to do with magnetism, I mean, if you would give a poor person rolex it would not suit him it would look like he has stolen it from somewhere or it is some cheap, chinese fake etc. you have to have certain aura to even wear it that only other rolex owners can tell from quite far

Those kids from school don’t buy Rolex. They buy $200 shoes and $300 Michael Kors watches and they think they’re ballers. They aren’t rich. A nice Swiss piece is a sign of someone with good taste, money and class. Look at the wrist of any non tech CEO and celebrity and you’ll see a boutique watch. Whether you like it for the prestige, engineering or attention to detail, it certainly makes shows how much you value yourself.

Rolexes and Omegas are fucking ugly watches. They look like some cheap shit you would buy off a mall kiosk. Perhaps that is because the chinks have made so many copy cats, but even so, this has really cheapened the Rolex brand in my mind. Same can be said for rappers talking about their "rollie".

unironically something a poorfag new-money wannabe would say. anyone in the upper echelon would laugh at your 12k watch, that's a pittance. you're batting out of your league.

it's like watching some poorfag buy a ferrari and then talk about the maintenance costs - these cars aren't for you. for the people who actually have money, buying a new ferrari is like buying a pair of shoes. you can't comprehend such an amount of money because you're out of your depth.

A good Rolex is a safe investment against (((inflation))). Used sea dweller 36 price went up when the red line came out, plus plenty of places do 0% finance. If you can finance a used watch, someone else has taken the biggest hit on depreciation in years 0-3, and you're fixing the dollar cost so that the x you pay in 5 years' time will be worth something like 0.85x to 0.9x at today's prices. In some cases it really helps with job interviews, in some cases it doesn't.
If your job requires a certain image, you should really look into the second hand market from authorized dealers only, you can save a plenty of money and get a product that works just like the new one, because you're going to service that thing every ten years and dealers do that before selling it. I’ll buy that argument. So why not buy fake status watches and shop at Ross, Marshall’s, Or Burlington Coat factory. Or if you’re really pretentious Nordstrom Rack. I don’t see the point of having to spend crazy money for brand clothing. If the wear is designed to fit your body specifically, then that’s another story.

There's a difference between buying actual high quality clothing and buying chink shit with an expensive logo slapped on it. Look up "how much is your outfit" videos and you'll see that money doesn't necessarily buy quality, a lot of people buy shitty expensive clothes to show off but there is a lot of stuff out there worth the money.

Not much, but it can be a bonding point. Someone who owns a nice Rolex probably knows a little about the models and the history, and it gives you a talking point. Sure, they're overpriced, and maybe they're a status symbol, but it's also a fun interest and maybe something you have in common with another successful businessman, enough to start a conversation. It's a little offputting to find out that the guy who has a decent Rolex doesn't know shit about it because he just forked over cash for a brand name, though, so he actually loses points.

Frankly, although I own a nice Rolex, I don't always wear it and I certainly don't give a shit about what other people wear. I'm interested when I see another Rolex just to compare notes about the model, I guess. These days a lot of people don't wear watches at all because their timepiece is their cell phone, and that's fine.

I've actually had a client tell me that they hired me because I had a nice watch and they understood that as an indicator that I was successful and would perform as expected. >Lmao, I already have a woman and a six figure job with a pension.

Me too, though there's always a small possibility I could lose my job. What sort of depresses me is that despite knowing I'm in like the 93% income percentile, everyone around me is wearing more expensive clothing, driving more expensive cars, and indulging in luxury pastimes like Vegas or Disney trips, despite the statistics talking about like 30% of Americans couldn't find $400 if they suddenly needed it, and more living paycheck to paycheck.

I drive a beater I bought years ago for $5k and keep it well maintained. I'll run that fucker into the ground before buying another Japanese beater. The only brand name clothing I wear is $50 Adidas sneakers or $180 cowboy boots I bought 5 years ago, and that's just because bargain-bin Walmart or Payless footwear has to be replaced constantly which is a waste of time.

The only things I don't cheap out on are things that matter like food, or things that save me time. When it comes to clothes, a mid-range suit and small set of mid-range (e.g. off-rack Calvin Klein) shirts will let me look 99% as good as if I'd splashed out on high-end tailored shit. Scoffing at the West's obsession with status symbols is such a cliche at this point, but low income normies still keep throwing their money away, it really activates my almonds.

Have a look at wool suits out of e.g. Nordstrom Rack

https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/Men/Clothing/Suits%20&%20Sport%20Coats/Suits

Last time I bought a suit was a long time ago, and I spent about $300. A lot of my like-minded friends buy slightly too big suits at $300-$500 from Nordstrom Rack then take that shit to a tailor to get altered to fit their body. The fit is like 90% of what makes a suit look good, and if you don't lift it's worth starting before you invest in a suit. Having a V-taper helps you look good in just about anything, but you don't want to have to get your suit refitted.

Good luck bro

if you spend 30k on something that will last you 30 years of everyday use, thats less than $100 a month for something you can enjoy all those years that will retain some substantial amount of that purchase value. so if it came to buying a rolex vs smoking or drinking id say go for the rolex
