I stumbled on this article about Altria recently. It seems they have been quietly filing patents on vaporizer designs for some time now. Good on them for doing so as the popularity of vaping has already been cutting in to cigarette market and will of course continue to be a popular consumption method for weed. In this past I have been confused why big tobacco aren't entering the vape market rather than fighting losing battles lobbying against it. Altria currently own 45% of CRON (will when the deal closes) and will obviously be going hard on weed as the legal situation improves.

its a little out of date now, but it ended up being pretty accurate until just recently w the oil crash. the tradewar stuff definitely threw a wrench in my predictions as its smashed commodities at a time when theyd usually soar

anyways, blue is GSCI total commodities index, green is DXY for USD and the white bars are VIX for the S&P. the white circles were me pointing out that we were going through a period of stealth inflation (masked by consumer spending still being high). the pink vertical lines are what you need to pay attention to for your question tho. each pink line is a localized peak in the GSCI. youll notice that what happens after this is a large (relative to the comm peak) VIX spike as well as a large spike in USD spot

so depending on how you wanna play it, long USD, short indexes, long VIX or short all commodities, or simply sit cash for a while. ideally you would want to hedge your bets, so perhaps you could go long USD w some light FX lev, and then betting against one of these factors (long indexes or long comms. i think long DIA is your best bet desu)

we can only hope it happens soon. even if this IS the beginning of a recession, one would expect a big bounce before we REALLY get down to business. unless of course that was what happened from feb till a month or so ago

heres the thing
i cant imagine a scenario where the FED doing anything will HELP.
like if he keeps tightening, that means he thinks the market can handle it (but this means further tightening, which we can see has not been massively bullish).
but if he DOESNT, and decides to get all dovish, thatll mean that the FED thinks were gonna get creamed.
seems kinda lose-lose to me

I think it will require an event such as another tax cut to get a rally (which I don't think likely)

the FED DOES control the market, but its actions are meant to correct past events, and help steer towards the desired future (for them). i think its more of a fact of the FEDs actions only show up later down the road because the market is its own living breathing thing

It may be too late to change course. If he continues to raise rates the market freaks out. If he doesn't, he doesn't have a lot of tools to help save the economy from a natural recession

if powell gets dovish you will see 50% of the SPX thats been underwater for years reverse upwards, carrying us to 3k. If he remains hawkish all money will flow from bonds to the spx anyway

Why would the Fed raise rates now of all times? It doesn't look like to me that the economy's overheating, albeit I've been reading about new plants and shit opening quite a bit lately.

im not convinced that the FED will sacrifice the efforts theyve been making to cap inflation and control USD/US economy, in favor for trying to save the market. historically we see that the FED often sacrifices the market in order to keep the US economy afloat (and in the 8 crisis, we saw them purposefully throw it to the dogs so that they could consolidate power over the large banks). i also dont think that the market sentiment at large is there to support such a stronk upward move rn. MAYBE by the end of next year, but its still a longshot imo

Nah they slowed down rate hikes in both the 90s and 2007 in response to yield curves and gave the market a 30% boost both times. Its going to happen again
