>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I don't think there would be much opportunity cost if you have a time frame and what you expect to get in return and what you would willingly lose on it if you were to pass a certain time and at what % loss.. or even if you had a set number of % gain.. just because i think it'll be a stock that you can ride for years and years to come.. as long as you don't put your whole portfolio into it.. like maybe 100 shares to start then 100 shares every 2 months or so.. or less depending on your situation.

I've actually made a grid (see attached) of each month and each week within the month and plotted out the actual pay date of each dividend stock I own as well as the dividend paydays of the stocks I'm looking into.

I buy the most undervalued stocks I find regardless of the grid but I do like the psychological effect of getting paid every week of every month. I'm close to it already. and if I can't decide between two stocks and i've considered value, sector, etc already, I'll go for one that gives me more money in a certain month/week.

The last one manifests for me in the form of "you're so smart how come you're not successful/rich yet?". The reality is i'm not very smart. I can learn things quickly but there are gaping holes in my functional ability to leverage that in to success. Working on the rich part though. Learning to trade was a smart decision. The current plan is to slowly ease my way in to full-time trading. The security gig pays pretty well for what it is and there is sufficient downtime to monitor my swing trades on the job if i'm at work during day time. Pretty close to feeling comfy about opening a margin account soon, that'll add some oomf to my portfolio. Have been trading just cash since i started four years ago. Speaking of which, as twitchy as the markets are right now, i think it's an improvement over late 2015-2016. Maybe it was inexperience but i couldn't get a grasp of the market at all during that time. Fucking false signals all over the place.

I bought my position at 7.50 but I bought it knowing u wany going to look at it until 2020 at the earliest. As far as im concerned all the prices were seeing now are a steep discount to where this stock will be in two years, but you buy it knowing there's a 15% chance of it going to zero and that is factored into the fair value estimates you'll see placed around $10. Realistically this is either going to zero or back to 20. Don't buy unless you're in for the ride. And for the love of God diversify in case it doesn't go your way.

That's my current set up and it does work pretty well. The trickiest bit for me was putting together a trading strategy that allowed me to be away from computer for an hour or two during trading hours without too much drawback. That was the primary reason i learned to swing trade rather than day trade or Buffet hodl. Buffet hodl is too slow, requires a lot of cash to see acceptable gains month over month, and requires a level of confidence in the companies you choose as well as your DD beyond what i'm able to muster. Day trading of course does not really allow for lengthy afk during trading hours.

My technique for monitoring stock movements is to identify support and resistance levels for each stock, wrote those down on a sticky note, then set up stop loss and stop-buys (to buy on breakout confirmation) plus price alerts for stuff i don't want to automatically push through a trade on without assessing the situation. Breaking resistance or support is sometimes not an immediate buy or sell signal, depending.

>> No.12090598

It will recover but it will take a long time. Estimates call for a share price in the $12 - 15 range. Your short term gains will come from the spinoffs. GE shareholders will get a stake (shares) in the spinoffs. So you will wind up with 5 companies stock via GE at $7.70 per. Each spinoff could go on to make bank or fall flat but for only $7 you can take that risk.

Buy and hold. pick companies that will be around for a long time w/fat divs & yield or bag a s&p 500 index w/ fat div and yield. Enable drip. Add to those positions as funds allow over time. After 20 yrs, turn off the drip. Pocket the nice fat payout(s).

EX: CTL - Cheap (17- 20 per atm) w/fat div (0.54) & yield (11%). 21 of these babies will net you $45 a year right now. I bought all 21 w/comm fee for only $372.50. W/drip you can add two whole CTL shares per yr to your position for free for an expansion of $4.32 each yr. But add to that, surely you can spare the odd $20 or two right?, and that climbs to an $8.62 growth in just div payouts. Then if they hike that div, well your payout will only grow fatter.

Then when a bigger company w/nice fat pockets and healthy div payouts are in line to strike one of your "victims", you strike first and buy the victum's cheap stock. Thus you gain a nice big company high dollar stock via the victim cheaper. EX: Fox - Dis Merger; Fox shareholders get Dis shares. Fox - $46-50 Dis - $112-116.
