Okay, so we are having this interesting company that have just started its IPO process on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
The company focus on licensing materials (mainly Japanese anime) and then relicense it to others (mainly Chinese streaming site).
Last quarter, they received 200 million USD from streaming platform for anime license, however the cost of revenue they paid to Japanese production companies to get those anime licensed was only about 100 Million. And the revenue-to-cost ratio over the past three FY was also similar.
This level of profit margin almost seems too good to be true. Even if its other costs like promotion, administration and tax are taken into account, that's still something like 40% profit margin. And they produce nothing themselves other than subtitles in some occasion, they're simply buying anime streaming right from Japan then sold them to Chinese sites. Where's the catch?
