Cause shit's fucking expensive anymore. Even renting will cost you plenty. Back when my parents were starting out a decent house could be had (depending on where you were) for 50k. By comparison a damn car/truck cost that much now. Sure you can find shit cheap today; but it's either needing lots of work (cost you shitloads to fix), in crime infested neighborhood (watch your shit vanish one day while your gone), or way out in the middle of nowhere (takes you 1 hr or more to get anyplace,watch your gas costs spike)

I got lucky. I got my place during the last shit fest. Plus the owners were desperate to sell; the place they wanted was in a high demand area so they were under pressure. Place goes for 140- 150k, I didn't pay that much let me tell you. On top of that they'd dumped a lot into fixing it up. Prob spent 15k on the tile work alone. So I just moved my shit in one weekend and that was it.
