Our military is really fucking good at killing other militaries and infrastructure. It isn't used against civilian populations which insurgents conceal themselves amongst. Even when we were napalming entire villages in Vietnam and killing women and children indiscriminately we still couldn't pull through to victory. There's no magic tech that protects you from some plainclothes guy in a crowd producing a pistol and shooting you in the back of the head. Also, in the event of a US civil war we could see incursions of other foreign militaries. It's not some simple thing, insurgencies are very complex, extremely difficult to squash, and absolutely require you to get the population on your side to combat them. That's why we took the "hearts and minds" strategy in Afghanistan, spending billions on propaganda and bribes to try and get the civilians to turn on the insurgents. It didnt work in most cases either.
