>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

One thing to recognize about the stock market - Facebook IPO'd at $100 billion. That is now $390 billion, but the runup to $100 billion was all captured privately.

Also - the best, fastest growing companies nowadays tend to IPO late and keep their growth private.

What it means is you really are only investing in stocks where dividends and slow price rises make you money. Something in a mixed basket with bonds, a savings account etc.

>>11913083
Not that easy with the trade war raising costs. Dollar Tree, Walmart are both at high risk. Dollar General would be the most clear winner from a trade-war recession combo. It has the least exposure to China and is also provides the same kind of dirt cheap goods.

Healthcare isn't a good long bet either considering we'll likely see policy action to reign in healthcare costs in the coming years.

It is quite difficult to find stocks that don't face these kind of risks, even harder to find ones with any kind of economy of scale. This is why I'm only invested in Dollar General, Verisk and Cracker Barrel. And cracker barrel is more for the dividend than anything. I experimented with smaller companies, but they're too volatile and are often over-leveraged.

Tetra BioPharma broke out of symmetrical triangle last week and decoupled from Canadian weed sector today. Not sure why Tetra all of a sudden making these bullish moves when it has, irrationally, been following the recreational leaf weed sector for months. Gotta be some institutional buying? I dunno.

Both GW Pharma and Tetra are looking bullish. These are the two pharma labs furthest along in clinicals for cannabis derivative meds.

I am not currently holding Tetra but I will buy if it breaks $1.08 resistance. If it cannot break that resistance, that'll be a triple top and short term bearish.

real analysis on trump - xi meeting

We have never seen trump do a meeting like this and not be buddy buddy.
If you go back to say north korea meet, putin meet, etc. He is always generally nice in person.

It's usually months after that he might go batshit or after being on a plane.

It's not predictable but odds are if they are having a meeting there will be some positive PR from it. Something in a positive step.

That's all I know. Doesnt mean it will happen though.

Trump trend is threaten the worst and then hammer out a deal right when people, or I guess the media, start thinking the threat is a real possibility. He's done it several times now. NAFTA was especially notable example. Media were truly thinking Trump would pull out of nafta entirely, then finger snap, deal done, everybody pretty happy with it.

a lot of what he does is just normal con or worst case protection

He does shit like say "hillary is rigging the election" to give himself outs to keep the con going post election. I don't think it meant he was going to go underground and lead a infowars rebellion and take the white house by force like the media made it out to be. He isn't a total bluffer but his most inflamed rhetoric is a definite bluff. I'm sure he would put the tariffs to 25% if china was not willing to make any sort of deal. At the same time I don't think he is going to march through fire and eat lava to get the best possible 6 years of tariffs out deal.

I think China's biggest issue is Taiwan, and if Trump manages to ignore Lighthizer and Kudlow, him and Xi could walk out with positive news, even if it's not a deal. The KMT winning the majority in Taiwan's midterms makes this easier too.

Dropping Navarro was a good call, but Lighthizer and Kudlow need to go for actual progress to be made.

>What does this mean for the housing market?

This has been going on for some time and has become extraordinarily obvious in the last ten years or so. The problem isn't exclusive to drug money either. Overall, BC, and increasingly Alberta, have an abundance of wealthy Chinese buying up a ton of property, maybe living in it maybe not, driving the prices sky high because it's a way to store money out of the hands of the Chinese government and they don't care how much the amount is. Owners of these houses frequently cheat on their taxes while living in the country as well.

Canada has been very lax about rules regarding foreign real estate investment and now this could be the catalyst to eventually crash it. Efforts made to make the deal less favorable for the Chinese have been weak. Like percentage premium fee over house cost for foreign buyers, fines for houses left vacant after purchase etc. Not nearly enough. And why? Well... the boomers are a part of a problem. See, boomers are okay will this because it gives them a buyer willing to pay exorbitant premium for their house, to which they can then sell, move to condo, piss all their wealth away before they die and naturally leave the kids with zilch. This is a part of the lobby for weak foreign ownership laws.

I believe if the dems get back in in 2020 the healthcare will receive a boost because they will try to resurrect obamacare in some form and thats a gamble i will take next year but with regards to energy, it is down largely due to overproduction of oil, is there any readon to believe that either us, russia or opec will pull back on production? If not, can oil prices really stay this low for very long? It seems unrealistic fir them not to get on the same page and price fix like they have for years at some point.
