Also - the best, fastest growing companies nowadays tend to IPO late and keep their growth private.

Not that easy with the trade war raising costs. Dollar Tree, Walmart are both at high risk. Dollar General would be the most clear winner from a trade-war recession combo. It has the least exposure to China and is also provides the same kind of dirt cheap goods.

Healthcare isn't a good long bet either considering we'll likely see policy action to reign in healthcare costs in the coming years.

It is quite difficult to find stocks that don't face these kind of risks, even harder to find ones with any kind of economy of scale. This is why I'm only invested in Dollar General, Verisk and Cracker Barrel. And cracker barrel is more for the dividend than anything. I experimented with smaller companies, but they're too volatile and are often over-leveraged.

This has been going on for some time and has become extraordinarily obvious in the last ten years or so. The problem isn't exclusive to drug money either. Overall, BC, and increasingly Alberta, have an abundance of wealthy Chinese buying up a ton of property, maybe living in it maybe not, driving the prices sky high because it's a way to store money out of the hands of the Chinese government and they don't care how much the amount is. Owners of these houses frequently cheat on their taxes while living in the country as well.

Canada has been very lax about rules regarding foreign real estate investment and now this could be the catalyst to eventually crash it. Efforts made to make the deal less favorable for the Chinese have been weak. Like percentage premium fee over house cost for foreign buyers, fines for houses left vacant after purchase etc. Not nearly enough. And why? Well... the boomers are a part of a problem. See, boomers are okay will this because it gives them a buyer willing to pay exorbitant premium for their house, to which they can then sell, move to condo, piss all their wealth away before they die and naturally leave the kids with zilch. This is a part of the lobby for weak foreign ownership laws.
