>The happier and healthier future promised by CRISPR-Cas9, the gene-snipping technology that has been heralded as a potential way to treat cancer and other genetic diseases, may take a little longer to achieve. Researchers in Germany found that 96% of the people in their study had a pre-existing immunity to CRISPR.

Medical stocks are super interesting because they're volatile and moon mission-able like crypto, but based on scientific research and clinical trials. For example: If you have drug company A and B both trying to solve problem X, and both are pre-trial phase, you could invest $1k in each. One of them might pass trials and one of them might fail, and one moons while the other craters. Both of them could crater, both of them could moon, but it's all based on real science and real FDA regulated clinical trials. So it's got some of this wild west that crypto has, but all the protection of FDIC/FDA etc that stocks have. It's a super interesting space to get into and I would highly highly recommend you getting into it if the crypto ride of 2017/2018 was fun for you. And then there's always more stable options like Pfizer or J&J but there will be less adventure and they have already mooned.

There's also awesome chances of trolling which is how the pharmabro became a meme.

for example, pfizer did a 10x easy in the 90s because of viagra. that would have been a fun thing to get in on and a moonshot based on products people actually want (bonerpills) as opposed to more theoretical things that are hard to quantify (you can ask the average boomer what he would pay to have an erection but ask them what project X on the blockchain would be worth to them and their eyes glaze over)

Follow the money, because money is at stake they do actual intensive research. So while youtube meme channels like CUNT-gezagt say CRISPR will be a miracle cure, real investors who don't sell views and likes realise it's pretty much a dead end. If it was the revolution researchers desperate for funding claim, it'd be priced in.

CRISPR is not in and of itself a dead end though, just because they can't cure cancer. For example, they can edit bacteria to generate insulin instead of whatever else they generate. Free insulin. Just because one use case is not viable doesn't mean others arent or new ones wont be found. So the stock takes a hit, but human creativity always finds a way to apply the technology to new problems.
