>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

at their most basic, interest rates set the demand for cash.

as interest rates increase, yields on debt (i.e. bonds) increase. pre-existing bonds lose value, because they have yields that are lower than can be bought on the open market, or directly from the government.

equities like stocks lose value for several reasons. as interest rates increase, cash becomes more valuable, which inherently reduces stock prices. also, stock yields must rise to compete with bond and debt instrument yields, so the stock prices fall relative to stock dividend payments. also, companies dependent on cheap credit (that have poor debt ratings) suffer liquidity issues under an environment of rising rates.

as central banks like the federal reserve raise interest rates, they make money "more expensive," which is called quantitative tightening. vice versa, money becomes cheaper, quantitative easing.

Yeah like this guy said.
I make just under 27k a year. But I have a pension + 401k + savings/brokerage (which I add to each month). My col is low. I live close to work. My car is paid for. (My wife's is to). The only debt is credit card (1k) and a house. Will I be a millionaire by the time I can retire from my job at age 50? Hell no. But I will be able to just kick back and just enjoy life. Key supports for S&P500 long term trend. October low at $2603 and February low at $2532. Highlighted in hot pink. Because. One of these has to hold. If both break it's going to be 2008 all over again and possibly worse.

Now there's no goddamned economic reason why those double bottoms shouldn't hold right now. Where is crisis? Where are the empty office buildings and waves of bankruptcies? Some of that stuff should have happened already.

>technicals, fundamentals, and meme lines

The idea behind TA is that certain patterns routinely repeat themselves in the stock market. Part of the idea is that these things tend to hold true regardless of the machinations going on to cause the price fluctuations. Now, keep in mind TA ain't no crystal ball and if anyone is trying to show you some meme lines and say such and such will 100% happen, that TA ain't no good. I use it more along the lines of; 'if scenario A, then A2, A3, etc. are likely', if scenario A does not happen, then scenario B along with B2, B3 are likely to follow'. That translates to my actual trading like: scenario A conditions met- follow plan A trades, if scenario A conditions not met, consult plan B, and so on.

More to the point: if October's low is broken, scale back positions and hedge. If February's low is broken, liquidate and go short. That is more or less my plan. February low getting broken is a red hell breakdown and could continue dropping for some time, in which case I want to be majority short on my positions.

Write comedy novels or something? Authors usually aren't famous to the degree of getting recognized in public constantly. Tough line of work to try to make decent money though.

Post a stock you're interested in and why

>VTGN

VTGN is making a drug called AV-101 to treat depression and neuropathic pain
AV-101 acts on the same neurological pathway in the same way as ketamine (they're both NMDA antagonists), and there's significant scientific literature, as well as increasing use in clinical settings, supporting the efficacy of ketamine in treating both of those things
The advantages AV-101 has over ketamine is that it's orally bioavailable (you can take it as pills instead of having to inject it), which makes it a lot more likely for doctors to prescribe it, and it has fewer long-term side effects and safety concerns than ketamine
Its performance in clinical trials and the fact that it's been fast tracked by the FDA twice indicate that it's a promising drug that can potentially solve the problems of a drug that's been proven to be very effective but has several disadvantages hindering its adoption as a more widespread means of treatment

In terms of technicals, it ran up to $2 after news of its latest fast track designation was released, and then slowly dipped for the next few weeks
It bounced very nicely today, going up 9.5% and closing above the 50 day moving average

It's a small-cap biotech stock, so it's naturally very volatile and will dip and rise wildly on relatively low volume, in addition to being vulnerable to short term manipulation
Ultimately, the winning strategy is to be patient and hold as long as the fundamentals are there

Drug that shows lots of promise to combat risk for having a heart attack. Trial results already out, Drug results are encouraging. They are getting ready to roll out sales people/marketing the drug. 2 billion is estimated in profit for 2019 alone. Takeover offer is very likely since this is small company and drug is locked up via patents/etc for a long time. So far the stock is kinda low due to a lot of fear surrounding a placebo pill (fake) used during the trial. No one doubts the drug works, rather they question the amount of reduction.

Couple new ones (for me) in the dude weed I'm eyeing. Keep in mind I'm a swing trader and am not as interested in fundamentals as I am in the chart and whether there are good entry setups currently. Anyway.

GW Pharma. Two reason: 1. while they have had shit financials to report every single time historically, the most recent earnings call produced a surprise beat. Meaning they've probably got half-ass decent earnings coming up next Thursday as well. 2. Chart looks good for continuation as it just bounced off the long term trend line a couple days ago. I entered a position on this just this morning.

Organigram. Canadian dude weed outfit. Somewhat underappreciated. Earnings coming next Friday. Previous earnings were excellent. Chart setup is very similar to GW Pharma's. Actually a lot of the dude weed charts are in similar position to either continue long term bullish trend or break trend and deep dive. My stop losses are set accordingly.

I'm gambling on earnings for both other these but would have entered for short term swings regardless because of the chart positions.

Disney & T

Both are cheap, both have nice fat divs, both will be with us still in 30 yrs, both have several different divisions that generate profit for the company. Bonus; Bag Fox to get Dis cheap. Yes; Fox shareholders will get Dis shares once that deal closes (first part of 2019). If Dis is trading at over $100 per then 1 fox = 0.33 Dis. If Dis falls to under $95 then 1 fox = 0.40 dis. But combine that with Drip and you get a nice way to bag Dis or increase your current Dis holdings cheap. Plus I think that you will still keep Fox stock in the "New Fox" spin off of all assets not going to Disney.

It's an older pasta from /smg/, a similar anon would come and sperg out about wanting to die and stuff and posted that.
It's been a while since we had a /suicide poster/
The best modification of the pasta is:

>family had an intervention
>realize that I'm alienating everybody I talk to because I keep shilling them defense micro-caps
>realize I haven't bought anything that hedges risk; actually don't have any idea how to risk manage or what diversification is
>haven't had sex
>haven't made a profit
>never knew that graphs came with indicators that indicate periods where stocks may be over bought or sold; that would have been really useful

I've been making money after a long period of not making money. My actual skill level at trading stocks have been getting more honed because I put more 'skin in the game' (that's exposure; look up what that means on your own lol). It's taken a lot of loss to get to this point but I've finally 'gotten' it, you know? Actually I take it all back, I lose a lotta money cause I invest in memes lol. I really know how to trade stocks. I just invest poorly on purpose. All the losses that I've taken are cause I really don't care too much about losing money, I can just make it all back. I just need to consistantly make 100% every week and lifes perfect.

That was the second style of trading I tried when I first started learning. My history was long hodl, then speedy scalps whenever I had the time, to eventually settling on swing trading as focus. I didn't have much success with the scalping. It was too twitchy for me and I had a hard time getting trades in exactly where (which price point) I wanted them. Ultimately I broke even mostly with that style and felt like I wasn't getting anywhere.

I think the zoomer audience would be turned off by that. It seems like the biggest trends in beverage marketing these days are all lightly flavored and zero calorie. Everyone wants a refreshing sparkling water, not heavy sticky milk. Also everyone knows how milk contains traces of cow blood and pus now, it's icky. Maybe Deans could start manufacturing a lightly carbonated milk in a skinny can with a letter missing from the name. "Crem" or something.
I predict a continuing upswing in the yogurt and healthy cheese market though

Bullshit. Buy organic and well treated cows and you’re not going to get that. The blood and pus is from mistreated and robotically pumped cows, and even then they pasteurize and filter the milk. Organic and filtered milk like Fairlife might be a little more expensive, but it’s worth it.

Honestly, they should make factory farming illegal, so only the upper classes can have access to meat and dairy. Then it’s more earth-friendly and the untouchable classes have to eat grains, grass and drink beer exclusively.

Gelato's are killing it, at least anecdotally. All my friends and local college kids go out for gelato. Also have you guys seen these low calorie pint ice creams? It seems like they've invaded my grocery store. The deal is that they use indigestible sugar alcohols instead of sugar and then pad it out with finely ground grain before whipping air into the mix. It results in a slightly weird chalky consistency, but it tastes normal and a whole fucking pint is 300 calories. The serving size is a pint!

This isn't a secret or anything just something most don't think about.

The creation of anything involves two things. A starting point and imaginary end point. You can veiw this simply. Imagine building a car. How do you start? With an idea for a finished car and a starting point. The starting point might be an existing factory or just some set of tools and materials to use.

Understand that these two points must follow a pathway that meets at some point if it is every going to be created.

For instance an entirely imaginary game in someone's head is not based on say a game engine or practical computer science possibilities. Meaning it can't be made or features some things basically impossible.

Every single thing ever created follows this pattern. Requiring an imaginary goal, and having a beginning state. The area these two points meet via branching choices is the area of highest complexity. If it is close to the origin point, meaning the imaginary goal dictates everything and not was is practical, it's almost impossible to create. If it's entirely practical with no imagination it's purposeless. The same as just throwing wood together in all sorts of shapes until you have some monstrousity with no purpose.

This concept. Of understanding an imaginary goal, and a beginning state. With each branch between the two increasing complexity is important and fundamental.

It underlies all complexity theory in algorithms.

The most basic gist is that creating an imaginary point is incredibly important and meeting them in the absolute middle is incredible important (aka equal branches from beginning point and end point) to minimize complexity

Think 2^N vs 2^(N/2)

This is just the most basic shit about it though. The key is that every fucking intelligent thought or creation involves this process.

Yeah, it's vague to explain it... because it doesn't fit to everything so easily.

It's like. If you want to build a game, you constraint the imaginary vision and goals to the capabilities of the engine. Or if you are building a house to the established materials, processes etc. They both guide each other in the best and least complexity design that achieves the goal.

Almost everything going on from intelligence follows this same pattern. You would do it when thinking about building or creating anything, whether it's code or a building.

or for instance imagining what a girlfriend should be like.

We all use imaginary end points to guide or intelligence. It's innate to humans as a complexity management tool, and really to get anything done.

>> No.11874049

now understand it's recursive.. every small step to the larger steps. Every step of the way this technique for complexity management is used in intelligence.

A cascade of imaginary goal points for each origin point. Throughout the entire system. You can see it say when anything is created for isntance not just in a brain. But in say the process of creating a house or a computer program

It's a very powerful pattern

id rather have a tradingview script that converts some source (ohlc4, or just hl2) from a series to a function, so that I could look at making it into a diffeq (to look at momentum)

but im too lazy/retarded, and pineview editor is not as good as MATLAB for actual math computation

using whatever tradingview's source is, or something that prints out tradingview data onto a file would be real choice if possible

does any of the paid subs for tradingview do this? (also fyi black friday sale on all of their subs)

and now that I think of it, i think matlab offers a subscription with financial tools (specifically stock markets), ill have to take a second look at that too to see if they have a source for current and recent data to use..
