Been through plenty of relationships myself that didn't quite work, can only speak from my personal experience. I've done relatively well for myself, but not independently wealthy and definitely not showy about it. Probably half of my longer-term relationships ended when things seemed to be going just fine, no major issues, finances nice and comfortable, and the woman I was with started "talking" to some other dude who she thought had more money, even if he had less of looks, age, fitness, whatever.

Fortunately, although I've got the basic visible assets (nice house, lake house, newer cars, no debt), I have tended to keep quiet about my assets intended for retirement. I have a nice 401(k) that's still accumulating, I own a few decent properties that my brother manages, takes his cut, and deposits the proceeds into a trust, and I have a nice stash of gold I bought in 2002 at what turned out to be a lucky low.

Maybe I just attract golddiggers, so take it for what it's worth, but I've lost too many times what I thought was a "good" thing because some woman without her own visible means of support just wanted to move up without working for it. Seems to be common and something to keep your eyes open for. Women can be trusted not to stray to money just about as much as men can be trusted not to stray to hot younger chicks throwing themselves at them.
