Am I an idiot for playing the lottery once a week?

My friend called it a retard tax but I like the thrill.

if you like the thrill it's okay I guess. But just like sports betting, you are only making the bookies rich.

I was going to explain just how stupid it is but you're probably too stupid to understand any explanation so I'm not going to bother.

Have fun with your number balls anon :)

If you take the stance that nothing in this life matters there are no wrong decisions

Buying a lottery ticket once in a while is actually a good investment. Sure the chances are astronomically low, but $3-$6 (here in Canada, don't know how much it is in the US) for a possible payout of $50mil isnt even that -ev, just because you're putting in an insignificant amount of money with a tiny chance of getting a life changing amount back. Your ev is probably even slightly positive in the states with $600mil powerballs and whatnot.

People who spend their whole paycheque on lottery or try to play "systems" are retards, but you'd also have to be dumb to not get a ticket a month or every couple weeks. Your chances don't really go up much though from getting 1 ticket as opposed to getting 100

Even with a strict nihilist viewpoint, consequences matter insofar as you have to experience them.

People who buy lottery tickets are too dumb to understand why it's a dumb idea in the first place.

Literally a retard tax.

>> No.11782634

if you just buy 1 ticket a week, its fine. if your buying more then 1 ticket, its retarted

Please do. That's the reason I made this thread.

It's fine. It's paying $2 for entertainment which is actually super cheap compared to other forms of entertainment

>> No.11782909

Nothing wrong with doing it once in a while. Here it only costs $2 for the Mega and $2 for the Powerball. I think the other popular one Lucky 4 life is $4. You probably have least $2 in change laying around anyhow. But going and blowing $100 or more on tickets is just dumb; your tossing money away then.

Hockey and women's sports is the way to go. Oddsmakers have no clue how to do those and they're always way off for a little bit until they normalize close to game start

Could you teach me more about betting please

I have no idea about sports or betting but it’s not like crypto or shares are doing anything good lately.

The best way is to get data from as many games as possible, save it, get the end result and test out strategies.

Or like that anon in the pic said, he was scraping twitter and websites of local teams (using google translate) to get an edge on the bookies
