i have no patience to dig up whitepapers can anyone summarize how could a blockchain function and how could anyone know what amount of coins they got or received if the tx is encrypted? and more importantly how double spends are actually made impossible, because anyone could transact offline or between two party with contracts but only ordering these by a third party yields verified results.

Monero can't adopt this feature because it's build in a certain way.

Fully transparent ledgers with 2nd layer privacy features are the best approach.

It’s impossibre to audit Monero to verify quantity. If you find a way to verify quantity than you just broke Monero privacy.

Same thing is true with ZKsnarks. It’s impossible to prove quantity of the shielded coins.

The facts are this, both Monero and ZCash will never be a sound cryptocurrency due to the impossible ability to audit quantity. One of these days there will be a discovered inflation bug in one of these privacy cryptos and investors will lose confidence in every encryption-private coin.

As sad as it sounds, Dash has the most sound form of decentralized privacy because the blockchain remains transparent and the privacy is uncertainty.

ZKP > Ring Signatures IMO
I think ZKP are just more robust and honestly more private than Ring Signatures. Whether Ring Signatures or ZKPs are more practical is probably up to debate.
