Guys, I figured out the secret formula.

1. Go on /biz/.
2. See what people tell you to do.
3. Do the opposite.

Please advise.

well in that case here is a website telling you exactly what people on biz are telling you to do

merv.tech

what else on it would you like to see?

Nice one.

How practical would be a sentiment poll, like people can vote for buy or sell?

How about one better, what do you think?

automatic sentiment detection based on context of the sentence talking about a specific crypto

If that's easily doable.

Also, a comparison to 24 hours ago, one week ago, one month ago etc would provide information about trends.

the algorithms running on merv are advanced, its doable for sure, a reliable sentiment feature will be added shortly

as for chart trends based on 24h/week/month/etc, glad to hear you'd like to see that, since its a feature being worked on right now, should be up very soon

open to any other suggestions

>the algorithms running on merv are advanced,
It looks like it's just taking score of keywords.
How is it advanced?
Though this looks really good and useful for future use and development.
But like many stock market secrets. Once it's revealed it stops working once it catches on so we'll probably only be able to get good use out of this before it starts being mentioned more of.
How do we get around spammers aswell intentionally trying to manipulate the rankings and minds of forum investors?

well currently a sentiment ML algo is being tested and refined to provide sentiment that's correct >95% of the time, getting the accuracy to be very high is a must

aside from that, the current algos in place have some neat built in features, one example is that it has a built in shill-buster, so it's able to tell when someone is spamming and manipulating, and it will not include that in the mentions count

but hey I agree, there is definitely more to develop on, if you've got any ideas this is the place to share

late game however, unless every single person trading cryptos is using merv (which is surely impossible), it'll still provide an advantage to the single user. A somewhat similar example I can think of is marketwatch's recommendations; a lot of people read marketwatch, but certainly not everyone trading stocks - either way those who read their reports and analyses have an edge over others, and sometimes a slight edge is the difference between +2% returns and +10% returns

/biz/ is fine once you realise who are blatantly shilling and who are actually trying to inform you of a good project.

Most of the time it's shilling but there are some gems that /biz/ comes across.

sorry still kinda new, is marketwatch subscription based? like Motley Fools?
Been reading the Intelligent Investor and they typically warn against going with the tides and rather doing your own research.
But I feel this is pretty speculative cause we're trading on the whims of the people.
So the implementation of Merv.tech is best used short-term trading right?

yeah it's got a subscription based newsletter where they'll give you a bit more stock information to make it worthwhile

but hey, you're 100% correct, you should definitely not trade solely based on the sentiment/attitude of people. You should always consider all the factors of whatever you're trading, whether it be technology behind a coin, reputability of the board of advisers, quarterly burn rate of the company, and so on

but, gauging the trend/sentiment/popularity of these assets will provide more insights and build upon the big picture, adding to the edge you will have compared to someone who isn't taking that information into account

it isn't meant to be the big picture by itself, just as how no single market insight is
