hold through volatility and think in the long term edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I can't call bottom but I can say it bounced off July support today, is now oversold on daily RSI, and will likely do a bounce on Monday or on Tuesday if Monday turns out to be a low volume doji. Last two day's candles are outside the lower bband. See chart. I would swing trade this on Monday/Tuesday if I had any cash left (i'm tapped out after buying the deep dips this week).

Hedge funds tout their ability to do well during periods of market stress. But many aren’t doing well during the current October rout.

On Wednesday, a large group of hedge funds that bet for and against stocks had their worst day in almost seven years, according to a report released Thursday from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The so-called fundamental long-short equity hedge funds tracked by Goldman dropped 1.44% on Wednesday, according to the client report, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

There is a 20% chance or so of dem sen and dem house. That will be a fucking disaster even if you hate trump. Having a ridiculously fucked up fed gov for 2 years with the senate having to endlessly attack the president for 2 years.

You have to price that in, even though it's small chance. For the record, any dem or left person has to be rooting for republican senate. It's far better to win both senate and presidency in one go, then having a godawful sen/house D and president R for 2 years. Because the dems will have to satisfy the insane anti-trump and cause nothing but endless investigations and #resist bullshit. Not good for the country. Far better if they do win, that they win in 2020 instead, and dems should agree.

>> No.11538575

I don't ever post in these Stock Market threads... but I believe you guys deserve a good tip more than these crypto shitcoin holders.

I have been working with Sonos for over 5 years installing them in homes all over the Silicon Valley. Their product is insanely good, and they work with just about every music service avalible as well has having their interface work on every operating system and hand held device.

They have just gone public recently and have fallen from 15 to 12 in this current bearish market. I don't really know anything about sentiment and I do not really track the stock market often regarding tech stuff.

What I will say is this.... Everyone love Sonos who gets it in their home, and there is little to no chance of this being a bad buy. They currently have a market cap of 1/1000th the size of apple. This company makes high quality products and as someone who installs high end components and A/V equipment into homes this is a no-brainer for me.

This stock will most likely be 5x-10x in the next few years as long as we don't enter some nightmarish depression.

Good luck anons.

Holy shit you have no idea what you're talking about on so many levels its sad. Sonos doesn't directly "compete" with either of those entities... In fact Sonos integrates Alexa into their products. They may have overlapping products, but so do many tech companies. Again, I have installed Sonos for 5+ years as well as worked in A/V, network and SV Tech for over a decade. Sonos has been making quality products for 16 years and just went public. It's not like its some brand new shitty electronics company. Their shit is top notch.

Commer
>How do you view the management ? Are they retarded or are they imaginative or else ?...
Extreamly creative in many aspects of how they handle their product/support. Very forward thinking. High quality tech support that is each to reach. Fully integrating anything they can get their hands and working with everyone to make their product as open and compatible as possible.

>With the current state of affairs, do you see yourself doing more work ? do you feel this is a growing company and you arr likely to get a promotion ?
I don't work for Sonos. I do high end A/V in the SV for the rich (google/apple) people that want a clean experience for their music and distributed home audio. I also do networking and other home automation. They were founded in 2002 and I started installing them in 2012. Before sonos I rarely saw any products that could come close to the experience Sonos provided. And to this day, I have yet to see a product do what they do and integrate as well as they Do. I literally found out they went public 3 weeks ago, hence this post, by the way.

>Does their business model have a moat ? Competitors ? Recurrent revenues ?
They have competitors but again, they give you an "Apple" like experience where they cover all the bases end to end unlike many audio streaming products do today. I wish I could tell you more about the financial side, but to me I have seen enough evidence that their are an amazing company just by how they have supported me and my customers while they were private. Not only that but they have so many features that most "competitors" do not have. And most people here wouldn't have a clue about Sonos because a Sonos Connect is $350 and most people here wouldn't pay that for a "music player". Then again, people said shit like that about paying X for an iPhone. You get what you pay for when you buy a Sonos.

Just buy Tesla long term and wait. These short swings are meaningless. Upside is way higher and the downside is much reduced. Should be $400+.

The key is to be able to hold it long-term and put in a smart % of your portfolio if you are playing it with real money. Most portfolios with real money and savings should have 10+ positions. At that level you can easily play it as good long term hold.

Real talk its because the japanese were forced into what the industry calls lean manufacturing because they didn't have the resources to build shitty stuff that has to be scrapped out.

So they focused on precision and reducing wastage, which has the side effect of building better vehicles.

Thats why the japanese buttfucked us. They developed a culture of precision, where the US was never forced to adopt new practices because the US was the only industrial society not ravaged by war.

The adapt or die mentality has pushed technology in many ways, Germany is a great example because their steel sources were high in manganese which makes metal brittle, they had to develop these massive 50 ton presses to create parts from this metal. During WW2 allies were dumbfounded at the technological gap between luftwaffe airplanes and allied planes because these pressed alumimum parts were stronger, cheaper to produce, and better in almost all ways.

The allies and soviets after ww2 dismantled all these presses and stole them as part of reparations.

Currently I've got the following in my portfolio. Most I plan to keep for the long haul. Few I got just cause the potential for them to be taken over is very high in the near/long term. The others is frankly a short term gamble, that may blow up in my face but such is life.

AMD - Long
Intel - Long
Amarin Corporation - gamble (right now things are on the upside)
Apple - Long
Shop - Long/ potential takeover target
Aurora Cannibus - Gamble
VTI EFT - Long
Vanguard 2050 Target Fund * - Very long (30 yrs)
Snap - Takeover target
Ecstasy inc - Takeover target
At&t - Long
Walmart - Long
Lions Gate (Both A & B shares) - Could not pass this up, both Voting and non voting at rock bottom prices. Also a potential takeover target with all the mega media mergers happening now.
Fox - Cheap way to get Disney shares once the Fox - Dis deal closes.
New Age Farms - Gamble, 1040 shares @ 9 cents per. Shit even if it hits 1$ per I've cleared over 1K in profit.
Verizon - Long
CTL - Long

* Plan to set this up sometime in 2019.

what are you talking about?

If they would've dropped it im sure they already would've.. the thing is though is that 96% is owned by tutes and 60% is short.. even if tutes want to sell they're going to have to call back those shares that they are lending out in order to sell them..

Theres big money involved with LCI the shorts are small time retail traders theres hardly any shares out there for retail to short.. and then 96% is owned by tutes?!?!? Big money hasn't sold yet.. not many tutes are going to be happy with taking a 60%+ loss esepecially when they know that 60% of the float is short.. Imo the tutes that are long are just chillen because they are collecting interest on the shares lent out... then on top of that the shorts are trying to bring it down further to cover their position.. problem is that the major holders of it aren't retail and aren't going to get scared out of their position easy. Shorts haven't covered because nobody is selling the amount of shares that they need.. tutes aren't giving them the shares cheap and they hold most the shares... so where are the shorts going to get the shares to cover with? LCI doesn't have any conv. debt and aren't diluting much at all.. like at all at all.

Only way i see shorts having a chance is by buying a shit ton of calls and then start buying from the market.... either way.. i really think shorts are fucked right now on this one.. them not covering is a big sign of them being in trouble and short ratio is dropping... also.. the news of JSP has been expected and has been getting priced in for the past year.. The company isn't doing bad at all.. most expenses are due to selling product related to JSP plus all the restructing... something fucking weird is going on and i'm staying long until i see short interest down to atleast 20%

Lannett is part of the s&p small cap 600.

If it's doing badly enough they will drop it. Vanguard and blackrock would only have large positions in it because of that. They won't be manipulating.

The institutions in LCI are only there because they have to be in order to fill the S&P 600 small cap index.

After LCI lost its distribution deal a while back it is in trouble of being taken out of that index. If it does, the tutes sell out.

And then the shorts cover. They just keep it from mooning til then.

If you're gonna have a position in LCI it should be small.

I'm 2 months into investing , one thing I noticed is that you need to think what other people thinks. The market doesn't care how smart you are. You can only react in conjunction to what everyone else does. Like how a herd of buffaloes reacts to a single lion. You think "It's just a single lion who the fuck cares? With out numbers it's a non-issue" then everyone else around you runs away leaving you behind to be eaten.

I a disagree. You might have a position that's completely correct but the market could still move against it for a long time.
That's why you shouldn't bet against a bubble/crash until it has topped/bottomed or you might get burned.
That doesn't mean that you should follow the market, though. It just means you should take its momentum into account when betting against it.

I you want long term investing advices, trading philosophy, read this book:
https://www.amazon.com/One-Up-Wall-Street-Already/dp/0743200403

The man who wrote this was the magellan fund ceo for 20 years, he is the one who bought dunkin donuts, taco bellm wall mart, leggs before anyone else, before wall street even knew about their existence. His philosophy resides in sticking to what you know best and learning to look around you 24/7 before there are investing opportunities at every street corner, you just need to open your eyes and see. One of his famous quotes is: If your hairdresser tells you about an investment opportunity, its already too late.

EU banks suck because the EU sucks. Economic activity is very restricted and entrepreneurship is down the gutter.
I see my country's gigantic bank day to day depress the whole index because it can't do jackshit other than sit on the money and status quo. Most of its mutual funds people invest into contain huge chunks of its own shares and I find that insane.

>>11543983
Definitely wait until the bottom or at least better times. It's not worth rushing your money into stocks now. There is no opportunity cost lost, so try to use your money in some other way.
