Implied volatility means basically the expected move the stock is going to make. With earnings, the IV gets very high, thus making options more expensive to buy, via premium. After earnings, even though you guess the direction right and the stock moves, the expected move is now gone (IV) and the value of your option is decreased. IV is very important. Dont play earnings with options unless you understand this.
