Okay, I understand the importance and value of decentralized oracles. But I don't understand the LINK token. What's the point of it?

I don't get it. Do I just let them sit in my wallet and then a network of decentralized oracles materializes into existence?

>> No.11499444

>>11499425
sergey confirmed, the nodes will require links to function.

you cannot host a node without links being staked. and fees will be paid using linkies.

so stfu shit tier 2017 FUD

>> No.11499445

Need to have a way to pay node operators mate

Am I really the only one whose tokens are currently being used in the network? I thought more of you would have gotten in on the beta nodes. Basically printing $$ right now and what's better is the security of seeing the companies using LINK right now are fucking huge household name corporations. NONE of you are staking on a beta node?

>> No.11499467

>>11499444
Then why would anyone use this crap? Why not use a network that doesn't insist on you buying tokens to use it?

How many LINKs do I need to host a node? And if I don't have enough, I have to sell or hoard them since they have no use?

You realize that you are receiving testnet LINK for that staking....it's not the same as real link.

>> No.11499488

Sergey literally said node operators are going to make $$$. And link is needed for node staking.

because chainlink is the first mover. plus the tech is backed by the biggest brains Ari juels co authored the white paper. and the team on the technical standpoint are very very good and serious. plus it's the only project that is seriously in talks with big players.

no matter how much you cry. Chainlink is the tech that will power all future smart contracts.

and it will require linkies

Why use ETH? Why not use a global decentralised trustless computer that doesn't make you buy a token? Why use Bitcoin? Why not use a global trustless form of decentralised value that doesn't require you to change fiat into a coin?

you don't understand. chainlink's very nature makes it so that users don't even know that they are paying for tokens.

Crypto tokens incentivize decentralization. You need some kind of payment, fiat actually requires more steps than a dedicated token

there is no point oracles could just as easily be paid in ETH or EOS

Read the whitepaper faggot

Oracles put chainlink tokens up as collateral to be paid to the user of the oracle in case the data it provides is no good. Link tokens' value are therefore proportional to the demand for smart contracts and value of those smart contracts

The problem with chainlink is they define good data by democratic process, so the whole may just get gamed

>> No.11501889

>>11499425
ill keep it simple. there are more use cases but these are two obvious ones and from here you can determine value.

1. Smartcontract creaters/users will pay Link Nodes in LINK

2. LINK is staked in nodes and will need to be a proportionate value of the Smartcontract using them. Basically, collateral value.

So, #1 is easy. #2, think of what the smartcontract market value will be in a year, when the largest banks like SWIFT are using them for bonds, derivatives and Lawyers are using them. Now think in 5 years when the market reaches close to a few trillions.

LINK value will grow proportionately to the smartcontract market. It will be insane.

additionally there is no crypto yet that's price isn't just speculation and accumulation in anticipation of real world use where business models and wealth become dependent on it
