They charge 1 btc for a Skyminer. The cost of a skyminer is about 800 dollars I believe, and you get the difference in Skycoin so you dont get scammed, you just pay for a Skyminer and the amount of Skycoin equally to the price of 1 btc

It forwards traffic atm, and in the future it will do processing and storage aka cloudcomputing and cloudstorage. So anyone forwarding packets, using your processor or storage will pay you according to the amount they use.

If you dont wanna pay 1 btc you can create your own DIY Skyminer

Looks like a $5 Raspberry Pi Zero with a unpopulated GPIO break-out PCB board of some type and some kind of antenna on the left in a cheap acrylic case. Nothing is wired up. Total estimated parts cost : About $25. The stand offs used in that case are more expensive than the Pi Zero.

It does matter actually.

custom-designed boards will have the holes in optimal locations (not in the way of components and in places that keep the pcb size minimal) , and usually that's not in the corners which causes tons of lost space at the sides and makes it more expensive ;)

Usually it will also be designed to fit a custom enclosure where it's unlikely that the mountpoints will match the corners of the pcb.

Go open up your modem/toaster/whatever if you don't want to believe me.

I've designed enough dual-sided non multi-layered hobbyist level PCBs in my lifetime to know what one looks like. This is a hobby level design, done by a single person, not a team of highly skilled individuals. That image exported with the board traces is from EagleCAD or similar, because when you get into multi-layered PCBs to set up for a PNP machine, it gets so overly complex with everything from trace angle to heat dissipation to via depth that you need the software to make a lot of those decisions for you automatically. This layout was 100% hand-drawn. It even looks like he's using goldfingers as a connection method, aka like a fucking Nintendo cartidges. The Pinnacle of reliability there.
Refute this please. Feel free to ask questions.

"Custom designed boards" would reffer to a non-standardised shape/size.
This MB in picture, although custom, follows the atx format, therefore it was designed around that layout.
Screw mounting points DO matter. Routing ground traces around something absolutely influences the behavior of modern logic, where high/low state differences are what used to be considered tolerable noise in stuff decades ago.

>Wants someone to decentralize the internet with a more sophisticated solution out of thin air.

Never going to make it.

The fact is Skycoin is closer to decentralizing the internet than anyone and that isn't likely to change. They have 10 years of work ahead of any competitor, what they are doing was purposed as simply impossible due to the kind of groundwork needed peer to peer interconnection.

With the improvement of WIFI tech they are going to try to do the impossible. It's going to take a while yet. You're talking about people being directly connected to one another without a 3rd party to handle it, that's some SCI-FI shit. Cable companies have wires running through the ocean because they can't even do that kind of shit.

Is it a pipe dream? Possibly, we won't know until they try. There isn't a big enough incentive to improve wifi because it does what it's supposed to do. Skycoin is trying to anyway because if they can actually improve it to the standard they are hoping to then it will be all downhill. The cable companies certainly don't give a fuck and haven't been trying, they make too much money keeping the status quo.

If you complain about cable company conglomerates but talk shit about Skycoin because they are "too ambitious" then you are the problem.

The whole point is to allow normies to build these things themselves with commonly available parts.

It takes years to build up industrial manufacturing flows for these things and if you farm it out to Chink production lines they just steal your IP and jack up the cost. They can't build their own production lines fast enough, so they design equipment that you or I can go to a hobbyist store and build with off the shelf parts. I can build the Skyminer, this LoRa device, the Antenna, and probably even the hardware wallet with ridiculously cheap, toy parts.

The fact that the people behind Skycoin try to make their hardware as cost effective and as user-serviceable as possible goes a long way to show their decent intentions.

How do you run computation on encrypted data you cannot decrypt?
Do you faggots just read buzzwords from a medium article and regurgetate them as technical knowledge?
A decentralized internet comes in pieces and the only thing this does is provide a socks proxy.

WTF are you talking about? The whole idea is to make ISP's obsolete. Whoever is acting as hosts holds the internet, they need a way to save and catalog the internet on the block-chain which is what they are trying to accomplish currently. They are only using ISP's until they can accomplish that, once there is enough P2P hosting they won't need ISP's anymore because each host would update each website in real time with each interaction from a client.

tl;dr You are saying what they can do right now, I'm talking about the end goal.

Bro, just shut the fuck up, you said there were only 400 DIY miners, which was wrong, now you're conflating the whitelist with official miners.

Also, the minimum number of nodes needed for a DIY miner is 1, with the max being 8, so the actual number of people with DIY miners cannot necessarily be found by simply dividing current nodes by 8.
