Get into a job field where specialized skill is valued and scarce. Here you can work pretty much at your own set wages; if you're in IT you can do consulting. How do you earn 22k?

I retrained as an electrician when I was 24, worked on offshore oil/gas platforms and saved up enough tax free wages to buy a stake in some commercial property.

Then buy some land, put a static caravan or 2 on it, you can get the land for around £10/20k an acre and a static will be around £5k, spend about 5k doing it up. Burn charcoal so you have a reason to live there 24/7. Now I have planning permission I'm paying people I know in cash to build my house at a fraction of what a (((bank))) would create in a mortgage.
