George edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

sounds like you need to just buy and hold more good stuff, instead of holding something you are concerned youll have to sell at some point

or dont place as many limit orders?

big bois may be seeing it , getting the stock down just enough for it to trigger, then letting the stock resume its original trend

limit orders are helpful, but they also make you a target when theres low enough volume

that is the dream, you might want a solid stable dividend stock or two to cushion you though, or wait a day or two before you set your limit orders
assuming they go up that day or two (or down), to give them some breathing room

being the closest limit order to the price makes you a bigger target than a hillary clinton tramp stamp
but of course that involves taking a risk

but if your current system is working, then dont stop just because someone on a nepal underwater-singing forum tells you to

Definitely? No. The day after the senate passed the legalization bill the sector dumped. So watch out for that possibility. However, if there is material good news like, I dunno, Altria rumors about buying stake in a major Canadian LP, that would cause a renewed inflation. Tomorrow definitely will be good for day trading as I expect considerable volatility regardless of the ultimate trend it takes.

The CAGR without additional contributions beyond a $10k outlay in 2002 is 9.33% which is about what people say the market gets, is the additional principal consistently even though recessions really worth THAT much? 20% annually even though recent principals were obviously only recently added?

No. Take a stock of a stable company that will pay a dividend of $5 per year, forever. It's not becoming more valuable over time, but it's price will always recover going into the dividend date.

From etf.com "As a levered product, TQQQ is not a buy-and-hold ETF; it’s a very short-term tactical instrument."
So I shouldn't just buy and hold for 5 years? How would I trade with it?

weed businesses cant use banking services (transfer by wire, credit, loans) by federal law, they can only deal in cash, and that cash cannot go into a bank in any way (not to mention profits get double taxed by the FED too)

id be suprised if they dont have similar laws regarding using weed money for financial stocks and options

and a weed ETF would be a nightmare, since a judge or congress could make every single person holding such an ETF a felon overnight if they ever tighten up laws, so its nothing but risks up and down

and canadian companies either dont have the capital to set up an ETF, or dont want to be subject to future USA lawbreaking, since USA is a huge market, that you dont want to lose access to

just buy gardening stocks, like SMG

in fact IRS can sieze ALL of your funds if you own weed stocks because "suspicion of crime" if they really wanted to right now

holding good stocks forever is almost always more profitable than swing trading, and much more easy too

and yes, a gain is a gain, no matter how big or small

also, never look back, if you missed a buy or sell opportunity, dwelling on it wont change what you did, it will only cause FOMO

also, never take advice from someone on /biz/ for anything to do with your own money, research it yourself

if you trust your money with a stranger(or a strangers advice) blindly, you have only yourself to blame when it bites you in the ass

You bet!

In one hour I will be able to buy weed on a normal website with my credit card. Feels pretty crazy. The usual procedure for online purchase here in leafland (without a prescription) was a black market mail order site. You had to send money with an email transfer and wait for the double vacuum seal extra double totally not illegal drugs inside envelope arrived a week later.

First goal is to preserve capital.
Second goal is to make gains.

rinse and repeat. It's all about repetition to start out.

Opportunity cost is important but most people in this thread will exit a losing trading and get right into another losing trade. Over trading is a problem with new traders and i'm pretty sure most traders in here are new and the likely hood of them exiting one trade and automatically landing on a winner is slim imo. Sure sometimes it's smart to take a step back and look at a trade and re-asses but most people in here will end up on their ass if they try to constantly chase trades with a few hundred bucks.

I think I'm stupid , but I'm pretty sure my luck is well below average. Now I'm planning on going back to tech stocks and hold for a year, then 2019 crash will fuck me in the ass as well.

No, you're just stupid, not unlucky. The market makes money off of people like you.

Buy high, sell low - classic biz

NEVER panic sell, thats the rule #1 in stock trading. Price dropped? Wait a week or month, 95% it will recover

NEET here with a fuckload of money due to reasons. I have zero experience with stocks, but I'm like to dip my toe into buying some just for fun. I'm talking about spending >$1000 because I'm also a cheapass who is risk averse; how difficult is it to get into actually buying stocks? Other than "buy low, sell high" what is the one piece of (good, not meme) advice that I should know?
