Red day edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Did just fine, tbhfam. Just fine indeed. The dude weed was most profitable today. Hopefully a consecutive green day on Monday will occur. We'll see. Weed remains bullish even under all this market hysteria but it is curtailing the gains somewhat. Things get questionable after October 17th; nobody knows if there is going to be a mass sell off, or whether the recent market stuff chilled out the bears sufficiently to the point that sell off isn't necessarily the most logical course of action.

Pretty curious how this plays out. The dude weed is full of surprises.

Charts are pretty uncertain. It could be a flat or mild red. After first couple hours the trend of the day will emerge and you can make a more informed decision then. The drop is not necessarily over. On the positive side, there are several quarterly earnings reports due next week, many of which are expected to meet/exceed expectations. That is the primary reason why I believe the downturn in a momentary blip and not a signal of catastrophe. Pretty well same scenario as February, same reasons for initial dump, probably same reasons for recovery.

good, they lose money from every sedan sold

they make bank on trucks and suv's though

why waste money on a product that doesnt make you money, when that cash could go towards EV r&d, along with pumping out more money making trucks?

also remember, F series trucks are the most popular truck by a wide margin

I am call biased toward Bank of America for earnings but have a put in there in case shit gets real I can break even maybe.

BPT is some random shit I found that has a 1.30 a share dividend which is nuts, I think I might make 50 bucks total if lucky and the put is because oil is crashing this weekend and I'll actually make back my dividend with the puts.
The puts are already up 75-155 bucks so fingers crossed.

GALT has had a rough month, but I'm still confident in the long term and will continue to hodl until the science changes or the company starts to run out of money (that would take quite a while)

Hello Anons,

I'm pretty new to the whole Stock Market thing and I have been reading all this past weeks /smg/ threads and I have been wondering...

Many of you have mentioned that you must do research before buying into a stock, my questions is what do you look for?

Do you know a guy who knows a guy?

Spend hours reading articles about how that individual company is doing?

Looking over stock history to see growth?

Following the heard of people and buying whatever's popular?

I am very interested to learn this, so please send through as much info on how you do it as possible!

Thanks!

>> No.11386670

FB is barely making money out of ads which are a fickle source of revenue anyways. There is little behind the structure that keeps it together.
You can still make money off them of course if you ride the bull like with Apple, but that doesn't change the fact the stocks don't reflect the true value of the company.

What the likes of Warren Buffet say about tech companies are partially true. Software / app based companies are bloated in value, a lot in due to their visibility. Manufacturers are fine though.

Depends. Sometimes I look closely at volume and read all the earnings reports/PR I can find dating back years.
Analyst projections are taken with a grain of salt, but easy as fuck to find so taken into account.
A companies RSI, Working Capital, Asset Value, EPV
When I need to take a quick look the first thing I check is P&E
I'm working to learn DCF and Reverse DCF, but I'm not good enough at these to trust them yet, I usually have to seek a professional opinion in these areas.
Plenty of people trade momentum/hype, hope based on the theoretical value of patents and developments of the company, market fluctuations and politics.

This is not comprehensive, and you sound new. Just spend more time researching different things based on how much/long you are investing. Easiest way to skim over a company is eating up all the PR's and reports you can find, P&E, Net Profit and the major factors that produced it, and working capital.

What I'm basically telling you is to learn all those terms and how to find them, so you can call me a faggot and say I didn't graze the surface.

>FB is barely making money out of ads which are a fickle source of revenue anyways.
I'm bullish on Facebook ads. Facebook is trash in general, but it's easy to see businesses realizing no one watches TV ads or pays attention to them on the radio (can you remember one?) and transitions to Facebook. Every freaking one is on Facebook, even people who reluctantly use social media. Ad prices should go up pretty drastically over time as businesses change their angle (or die off).

Again, I hate Facebook on principle, but they're going to be insanely profitable long-term.

Emphasis: LONG-TERM.

>> No.11387689

>>11387505
FB is short term for me exactly because of the reliance on ads. Websites / communities relying on ads is a last ditch effort and only offer supplemental revenue. The owners must pay the upkeep from their pockets from time to time until someone pulls the plug.
Facebook and other such platforms, though much larger in scale, still failed to produce a sustainable business model while being constantly embroiled by security breeches and privacy concerns.

My skepticism with the ads on FB stems from the complexity and difficulty of such systems. FB is bloated because of all the ads and targeting algorithms working in the background for the millions of ever changing local stores in the database which is very human-intensive to maintain. Many people (including me) are outright blocking the ads and fucking up the system. Others deliberately game the system like with Google ads. AFAIK similarly to Google, FB also owns a reimbursment for these fake clicks so their revenues get slashed unpredictably.

Ads are generally cancer, and it becomes very murky business on the internet. FB made numerous attempts to move away from ads and diversify themselves capitalizing on the website's popularity for something that actually makes them money, but failed to do so AFAIK. Unless you count selling data for political parties and providing a platform for shills.
So unless they start to make money like Netflix I will continue to be skeptical.

Sorry, I'm in a hurry, but tl;dr I know computers and the chaotic world of online ads so methinks FB needs to rely for something else in long term.

Depends on your definition of "long term". If you invest in a company growing at a double digit clip and keep on buying shares, those dividends will continue to build and the sheer volume you own will yield more capital even when their growth slows.

Most companies should be invested 3-5 years for value investing, unless they have SERIOUS lasting power.

You give the best advice here, and do it without being a condescending prick. I speak for many when I say thank you.
For anyone that cares I opened small positions on STAG and IRM this week. Both seem to be stable companies with good leadership and strategy, and both pay a decent dividend (STAG pays monthly).
My plan is to split my total DIVS into four pieces: a quarter doesn't exist because Uncle Sam, a quarter invested in more of the same DIV stocks, a quarter to gamble on meme stocks/swing trades, and the rest for new long stocks that catch my eye in the future.
My biggest problem is deciding what do about F. I like that they are transitioning while their cash situation is good. I like that the share price is. However, I HATE the looks and specs of the new Ranger (4 cylinder auto trans get the fuck outta here) and the seemingly retarded leadership. But a $.60 yearly DIV appeals, especially if that share price went back to $10.
Thoughts? I hate the weekend. Ring the goddamned bell!!!!

V8s were the most economical way to get cheap power, you still get the same peak power with a turbo 4 cylinder when the air forced into the engine = the displacement of a v8. When turbo 4s make peak power they arent any more efficient than the v8 theyve replaced, its low load where they take advantage of the small engine.

It depends entirely on which engines, and which turbos, you are comparing, thanks to modern technology generalized rules for this don't work anymore, when comparing you'd need to specify which V4, which V6, and which V8, and what specific turbo is used

I've seen V4's with no turbo that can out class a V8 with a turbo in every single way

It all depends on displacement, size, which vehicle, and a dozen other factors

The rules of thumb for ICE has been the same, aviation has solved the problems of forced induction in the 40s.

Displacement = more power
More compression= more power

More displacement can be gained by bigger engines or forced induction

Higher compression can be achieved with better fuel and heat regulation.

A modern v4 naturally aspirated will out perform old v8s because of cam profile/compression ratio, a modern v8 naturally aspirated v8 will always outperform a naturally aspirated v4 with equal compression ratios and displacements.

Modern muscle is putting out some serious power, but I think these small turbod engines are good because of a superior power to weight.
Hopefully a breakthrough in batter tech happens soon, electric cars are boring but they are fast as fuck.

If you "need" something to happen you already fucked yourself. the market does what it does without you. all you do is put your money down. when the market crashes 50% it's easy enough to get people to accept they had nothing to do with it, but when the market is up 50 those same people suddenly think they're the smartest people in the world. if you can be one of the rare ones that understands they're the same, that's when you can make money, and most importantly, not give it all back
