So if you had an old hard drive that crashed in 2009 and you remember that you installed the bitcoin client and that back then every user was automatically a miner. You don't remember any passwords or privatekeys because as said the hard drive just crashed. If somehow you could access the hard drive what files would you have to look for? Would it even possible to recover some btc in such a situation?

Also how do you get rid of this constant itch in the back of your had knowing that you could have already made it by now?

Forget about it nigga. The reason BTC is worth anything is because most people threw them away in the early days.
Don't end up like that guy who spends his time looking through a landfill in Wales for the HDD he threw out.

Don't ask a professional to look for them on the drive unless you trust them 1000%.

Find a technician capable of data recovery, its possible to still pull data from old hard drives. As for getting into the wallet the password (or possibly even your private key) still exists in your memory, force your subconcious to tell you; either see a hypnotist or take up lucid dreaming and force your brain to render your password in a dream.

Something happened to me. Just look for the wallet.dat file if you can. Like anon said dont trust data recovery specialist.

Not really the bitcoin-qt wallet had mining capabilities but that had to be enabled. Plus it was only on linux.

Impossible. It will always be there, until your very last breath.

Son't worry. Someone with a quantum computer will scoop up those p2pk funds.
