>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

nintendo went nvidia this gen and got fucked with piracy. I don't think they will be coming back for more. both ps4/xb1 already used amd stuff, and guesses are next gen is already being designed with more powereful & expensive cards/vr memes built in.

long term I think of nvidia/amd as 2 pieces of a 100% market share, and nvidia goes down amd goes up. but nvidia beating out amd with 10nm chips might make a difference.

I expect a violent short sqyeeze on weed sector either tomorrow or Wednesday. My concern is that it might not hit as high as it could have if shorts waited for my main tickers to slump under their own pumped up girth. They jumped the gun, sector won't drop as hard, bull trap bounce will be weaker.

I remember most of the guys in /rhg/ got obliterated and left back in February when the VIX pop happened. But I guess that's the game, right? If you don't have a big port, might as well try to all or nothing. Precisely. You only need to "make it" once in your life, and afterwards all you need to do is invest conservatively to reap the rewards.

The alternative is 30 years of wagecucking like the Boomers.

I don't have the time or the patience for that.

If I make it, I make it. If I don't, then I'm hardly changing my life sentence of wage cucking.

>> No.11280375

>>11280298
Well, "making it" isn't trivial and "not un-making it" is also not trivial.

When I hit 200k net worth around 2008 I went back to to 70k before recovering. More recently I hit 6 million net worth during the crypto run up of late 2017 and now my net worth is just over 2.

events like 1999-2001 or 07-09 can happen again, and if taking risks is how you got somewhere its not like the average person just locks it up when they hit their number and puts everything in t bills.

10-15 years is a stupid long time. I dunno, maybe a bank or something. I am baffled how people can manage to hold that long without going crazy. The reason I swing trade is as much to do with my own psychology as it is about gain potential. The long hodl stresses me out far more than trading does. A trade goes bad i just yank my position and look for the next. There is no fretting over bags wondering when/if they'll recover. The only time it gets tense is when i'm cost averagong in to a position fishing for a bull reversal without clear idea where the bottom will be. Sometimes in that case the thing drops further than anticipated and i devote too much cash to keeping the cost average break even point within reach if a single day's hard swing. There have been times where a single position briefly accounted 90% of my portfolio.

...i should stop doing that kind of trade. Problem is it has paid off very well enough times i can't resist the temptation.

It's not trivial, but being too invested in your money means that you can't think rationally about your decisions.

If you think something is going to happen, put your balls on the table and try to profit immensely from it.

It's a binary outcome, the situation happens where you make a lot of money, or it doesn't.

If I had responsibilities, a mortgage or debt, I wouldn't be doing it, but I don't so I have a high risk appetite.

For all these stocks that have been going up the past few days, I’ve typed in their trading name for news. One thing I’ve found with almost all of them is that they are talked about on some very small websites, almost no coverage at all, with the exception of AMRN, from large financial news sites.
Even more strange, is the way these really small and cookie cutter websites discuss these small cap stocks. They say things like “Analysts have researched on X stock. One analyst when we asked said X was a good buy. All the analysts we asked agreed.”
There were more instances like this, but it’s just strange and makes me believe that it’s preying on the feeble.

Also, I know why MNGA went up +130% pre-market. It’s very common that I’ll read the Robinhood crypto comments at around 6pm or 12am.
Last night, one person wrote “just bought MNGA, can I go to bed now?” Many new people to the stock market DO NOT realize that trading after hours doesn’t buy them the stock in the regular market time, but instead they put an order in for pre-market which has low volume. I figure people in the DOGE coin chat did this, paired with many other new people both in and out of Robinhood. And they all drove up the price.

Seriously, many people talk in the crypto chats about putting in orders after the market is closed. And they have terrible grammar. As if they missed the later part of high school. I don’t know what’s going to happen to these kinds of investorswho rely on small fry websites and buying before/after hours.

It's cause I tried day/swing trading without learning the ropes. I've only learned fundamentals and long-term boomer strategies, but am too impatient to actually do that. I've never traded options either.

It's all been thanks to going all-in on some promising stocks right before big dumps: FB, NFLX, IQ and now AMD.

>AMD
Anon, the mere fact you said you lost money on AMD tells me that you bought in at the high. Stop buying at the high on these dependable stocks. Wait for a dependable stock to go down, then buy. Although to be frank, I don’t trust this stock market right now. So three days out of the week, I just buy in and sell in the same day as of the past two weeks.

Keep buying dependable stocks like you have been, but buy when things shoot down. I recommend waiting until next Monday to see if we’re entering the big bear market or if this past week of red means new dips have been created. I try to only buy after large dips with no explaination granted in the news, or if the market is raising up as a whole.

Some good companies to look at:
>OKTA
>SHOP (they say it will reach 1000 by 2021 or 2022)
>Nvdia (AI technology)
>WIX
>Apple
>Potentially GrubHub

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Remember, wait for dips then hold for either the day, or for a week. Made 10% off of SHOP by doing this in mid August. You’re goal should be to make 2% a week. Maybe three trades a week making 0.75% each. It’s do able. Don’t be too greedy, pull out before things go down hill, then wait to get back in when things actually do go down hill.

Again, I would wait to buy until after this market starts to look better since you’ve had such a bad go of it. So give it some time. And don’t hold any of these volatile stocks, like OGEN or MNGA, over night. You still have a lot of money compared to others and it would be a shame to lose it over something so unpredictable becuase of low IQ investors spamming in pre-market orders in Robinhood.

Yeah desu the AMD might've been my dumbest call yet. I watched them like a hawk in the 15-17 range, then got pissed when it soared to 25, and FOMO'd in at 30ish. My excuse was that I looked at the management and a long-term perspective, but I didn't take all the pump into account.

My first stock pick was FB right after the scandal, and went up huge on that, but got abbsolutely destroyed after Q2 earnings, and everything else I've touched this season (IQ, ADBE, NFLX) went straight to shit.

TSLA has always worked out well for me. I buy after Elon says some stupid shit, and sells when the market has stopped overreacting.

How do I see if we're big bear or a new dip is created? Do you have any explenations dor your company picks, except Apple which seems undervalued considering how good their fundamentals are?

these all move up or down as a sector usually either up by 0.5-1% or down by .5-1%.
then when you get more accustomed to it try oil and airlners they usually are the inverse of one another and move up or down as a sector depending on the price of oil along with the news
