>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Ok, let's say you have $100 a month to invest which means you can't buy QQQ/SPY. There's plenty of ETF providers out there so there's probably a NASDAQ/S&P tracker which trades for a few dollars a share. Costs might be a bit higher though but the difference is literally pennies for amounts under $100.

Like the other anon said, keep away. There are other, more established electric car companies in China if you really want to go the China EV meme route. Look at BYD, for example.

A cursory glance at NIO's cars show (1) standard unspectacular SUV-type; (2) literally fake news concept car-type (similar to shit like

It's just another pump and dump.

I keep saying that because the mainland companies often boast profits but never provide statements of cash flows or they are always borrowing to make ends meet.

Being incorporated in HK doesn't mean the accounting can be trusted 100%, but it is better than in mainland.

I only look at pure HK companies or foreign companies (oftenly Japanese) incorporated in HK.

Because earnings were low. It is a valuation indicator. Low doesn't mean buy, high doesn't mean sell. Maybe the reason the old metrics don't work is because the market is broken and headed for another dotcom bust?

But hey never mind. I am sure this stock boom will continue forever and lenders will continue to shower Caa1 rated companies with unlimited credit.

>Because earnings were low. It is a valuation indicator

that does not make any sense. why would somebody use an indicators that are no worth of anything in terms of price action or profitable trading signals... pe gives so much false signals historically it is just one of the worthless fundamental metrics. people cite all these overly simplistic metrics all over social media (to support whatever market view bias they already have in their head) and they dont even understand how bad the metrics are or have never backtested trading with them let alone front tested them with skin in the game

>> No.11261096

Correct. Stuff trades way outside P/E expected range so often it's a useless thing to base any kind of trade off of. For future strength of company I look more at a broad range of EBITDA, how much cash the company has available to devote to M&A before they need to raise more, cash burn rate, total assets, total debt.

>> No.11261138

>>11261034
Stop having such a single minded view. No one trades solely on PE, that's a straw man. It is not a trading metric. It tells you what it says on the label. It is a quick look at the main questions you should be asking when you buy shares.
>How much do these shares cost relative to how much money this company makes?
If you want to throw in expectations of the future you go company by company and compare circumstances.

EA will produce good returns through the last quarter of 2018 and into the first quarter of 2019. Their video games are returning tidy profits through their monetization methods. A major player in that space is FIFA; which the game just released a couple of days ago. Many gamers spend a good amount of money on player packs. Not to mention, FIFA 2019’s playerbase will continue to grow with EA introducing a game subscription service that includes games like FIFA 2019.

EA is also doing away with the loot-boxes and other money grabs when it comes to their titles like Battlefield and StarWars, and they’re even including all of the DLC releasals for free to the consumer. Not to mention, including a battle royale mode in BF V. Anthem should be coming out in early 2019, so it should continue the earnings gravy train onwards through Q1 2019.

Nobody gives a shit about “innovation” whenever it comes to games. If innovation were important, then the DreamCast and PS3 would have been some of the greatest selling consoles of all time. Instead, they were beaten out by cheap shit.

More importantly, the majority of game console purchasers aren’t the die-hard fans, but parents wanting to shut their kids the fuck up. So of course the number one thing this demographic looks for in gaming is value, and EA is without a doubt pushing value over innovation hard this year.

If you look at it from a more macro level, then you’d see that consumer spending is up versus some previous years. This generation of consoles is approaching its late-stages, and so there will be even better deals for a consumer base that has even more money to spend than last year.

I don’t know shit about Nintendo though, and in my opinion, the Switch competes with much of the same market as the Nintendo DS does, but who knows? With Smash Brothers coming out in December, EA could be a nice pick. I don’t know about their underlying fundamentals though.

I’m long on TTWO, EA, ATVI

Do you know how big studios work? They bleed talent as it is a soulless place to work. Everyone just shows up to collect a check. They have to renew their pool of talent periodically by buying new hot studios. The way to make bank in videogames is to find companies ripe for a buyout a couple years ahead of time. Look at CDProjekt. Would have rather gotten in on that than EA.

Looks like imminent breakout on Harvest One Cannabis. Monday will confirm or reject the pattern. It has been in descending wedge for over a week now, Friday signaled a break to the upside.

Otherwise I'm not seeing anything spectacular in immediate short term in the sector. RIV needs to set a higher high off the higher low for anything good to happen with that. QCA (investment firm with a big position in Acreage Holdings) is in a nice late bear market equilibrium, I will be opening a position with them some time in October... probably late-ish October.

I’m not saying these companies aren’t soulless trash. I like playing the occasional vidya, and I’ve noticed that I tend to steer away from games published by publicly traded companies. Since they put the investor before the consumer now-a-days. Examples would be how they push paywalls, “deluxe” (play it early) $100 digital games, and micro transactions. Publicly traded game companies need to compete mainly through micro transactions. It’s no mistake that Rockstar pushed micro transactions hard with GTA V whenever most of the other studios owned by EA and Activision were introducing loot boxes and trading card packs in their games.

There’s still money to be made off of them though.

half of tesla value consists of Elon saying dump stock pumping crap on twitter. If you buy it: be aware that announcement of a DoJ subpoena/charges could send the stock down 50/100 points in a single day; the company needs a capital raise or it will be forced into bankruptcy in January, or march at the latest; and that the company is incapable of making its forecast guidance because it does not have the necessary capital infrastructure(paint shop only rated for 5k cars/week) and the permitting for such structure takes 6 months to a year. Playing a Q3 numbers bump may still be a viable trade though.

Right but my understanding of it is that prohibition on racially discriminatory hiring practices does not have a quota like this. No. You need a flaw that shows weakness in a fundamental aspect of the economy for a crash. In 2008, the people that read the securities backed by housing found this and did so. And while they did, they were burning bad until it paid off. The most recent ones to find it was the VIX incident in February. Those who found that made millions. Some just retired after that. But if you are just waiting just because? Then you are better off building a positive portfolio with a proper hedge.

>Canada also bowed to U.S. demands to raise its de minimis threshold – the amount of online merchandise consumers can buy across international borders without paying import duty – from $20 to $100, said the sources. The move, which was opposed by the Canadian retail industry, was agreed to by Canada in exchange for still being able to collect sales tax on the purchases, a source said.

This is very good for US online retailers. The $20 limit locked out most small purchases for import. As a Canadian you had to either bite the bullet on duty or stick with a Canadian retailer. Amazon Canada's inventory is not as comprehensive as Amazon US's is, so that's very good for them especially.

To keep it simple you only need 4:

BND - US total bond
BNDX - International bond
VTI - US total stock market
VXUS - International stock market

Really simple? Just do BND and VTI. That's what I did for my IRA. Mix the ratios around for your risk/return level (I did 80% stock and 20% bonds). It is very simple and you can set and forget it in the meanwhile as you learn more.

Bonds act as stabilizers for portfolios. There are tons of ways to do so, but from what I'm reading in your post, using options to delta hedge seems a little advanced right now for you. Alternative models such as using LEAPs might be a bit too much for you too. Here let me link you this: https://www.vanguard.com/us/insights/saving-investing/model-portfolio-allocations

Go through and see which you feel comfortable with. Everyone wants big growth, but people do bad when they see red. I've been in chatroom where they were so return hungry, they blew up their account during the VIX event in February. 500k evaporated in a day. Just start slow and easy man. If you are sticking with a decently high ratio of stocks to bonds, you will do alright for your age, and you can get more selective later as you learn more. Then you can choose sector ETFs or even individual stocks.
