Let Mummy make you some tendies edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Okay one more post on the Kavanaugh thing and then I'll keep it to /smg/ topic, although I believe this will have an effect on the midterm elections, and the midterm elections will definitely have an effect on the market trends.

Today during the hearing, Senator Lindsey Graham did one hell of a mic drop on the whole sham. It is a thing of beauty.

Republicans to gain seats in the midterms. Long the golden bull. That is all.

Today had a lot of small order movements on the stuff I was watching, especially the big blue chippies. Sporadic order movements on level 2 (this is the extended bid/ask ledger). Usually when I see that kind of thing in combination with economic uncertainty over tariffs, the fed's interest rate hikes, yes the upcoming midterm elections in the US, and so on, I interpret it as nervousness on the part of the markets. Things don't get short term grim until you see mass algo dumps like the kind that happened back in February.

You mean in 2014? When everything oil related tanked? Not really an issue these days.

Also the dividend is high because it's a royalty trust, not a stock. The entire purpose of the trust is to slowly liquidate assets and pass the proceeds to shareholders through distributions.

does anyone know why anyone would use a stock broker that charges CAD$25 per commission? Apparently I get level 2 quotes with it but i don't know how useful that is if I just want to play ETFs. Cashed out all my weed stocks, it's too much for my heart, stop limits are useless since they get triggered pretty much instantly.

I only picked Scotiabank since I already had an account with them. TD is like $10 per comission but they are down 100% the time weed stocks crash or FOMO too hard.

No that's stupid expensive. For bank brokerages I suggest RBC. It's $9 and change to start and I have never had any problems with outages. It was slow to load only once, and that was during the climax of the 2017 weed bull run on January 2, 2018.

There are other options besides banks. I guess Questrade is alright but I have no personal experience with them.

As far as level 2 goes, that is not critical for ETFs and your ordinary long hold investing. Level 2 is more of a swing and day trader's tool where a few cents one way or the other are very important. It's also a rampant platform for shitposting with money, lots of bluffs and fake outs and manipulative tricks to make a stock look like it's about to do something when it, surprise surprise, does no such thing and the bid or ask wall that was there vanishes.

I currently have three solid stocks, but I want my portfolio to ultimately have seven. Was hoping I could get some feedback from /smg/.

I have my workhorse stock, which rarely dips below 1.2% profits. It's in tech.

I haven't found my #1 stock, the one I'm really passionate about and believe in, but I'm really starting to like Monster. I've always enjoyed their products, they're expanding their lineup, and they're making some really neat leaps and bounds. Their balance sheet is pretty impressive.

I have my two "growth" stocks which have a higher E/PS but are generally solid returns in retail and restaurant/hospitality. I've avoided having too many stocks in identical sectors.

I'm still looking for two slow-burning stocks, stocks which aren't exciting or don't grow in leaps and bounds but are consistently in the green, even if just slightly.

I still don't have my "gamble" stock, but I'm considering Micron or a trust-fund (PER, which was mentioned earlier, comes to mind). Maybe ATT.

Any ideas, /smg/? I've generated a 6% profit in the 30 days I've been doing this, and only sold at a loss once.

I think it's a matter of context. Elon is literally under SEC investigation for tweeting an investment related weed joke. Misleading shareholders is usually more sinister.

It feels like just another part of the current Elon meme cycle. I expect the stock to go all over the place in the next few months. We could even enter the full meme universe where the SEC bans Elon from running a public company and he responds by taking Tesla private.

Every morning it was ground sausage patties, sausage links, scrambled eggs, eggs over easy, eggs sunny side up, pigs in a blanket, biscuits upon biscuits, orange juice, milk, coffee and anything else you could ask for. The one thing I’ll never forget though was the syrup.
It came in a quart sized paint can. You had to pry the top open with a screwdriver. It was THICC too. She’d put a spoon in it and turn it upside down and it would stay there.
Louisiana cane syrup is where it’s at. Log cabin and aunt negro ain’t shit.

To extrapolate before you start blindly flailing about again. Dumping money into dividends, rather than "charity" or some shit is fine. At a certain point you will receive diminishing returns from investing internally. Just as someone can get tax benefits from investing in charity (and save money), Putting money into dividends increases the value of your stock (with lack of another way to efficiently do so at your current size). Does that explain it enough you drooling retard? You took a simplified explanation and tried to twist it into a personal attack against your favorite investment vehicle.

In an ideal world people can keep expanding a business without relying on dividends, increasing stock value through inherent value of the company. But in the presence of diminishing returns, limited markets, and cost of operations, at a certain point dividends become the best option available. Some companies just suck and poor money into dividends to gather investors/attention, but no one accused your "darling" stocks as being those. Now go think about what you have done you annoying twat.

You're just generally not supposed to compare floating point numbers for equality. It's bad practice.

Ints are perfectly acceptable. Just not floating points. Comparing objects for equality can also cause issues, unless you've done something like implementing/overriding the compareTo method in Java. The reason why is that objects are compared by reference by default, rather than by value -- it simply doesn't know how to compare by value unless you implement it for objects.

I think Warren Buffett would agree with you, but I don't think that I would.
There's no sure things, and increasing the number of trades is kind of a form of risk mitigation -- you should never go all in on a non-ETF no matter how confident that you are, right?
