I'm a big fan of whiskey. So let's say I find an outstanding deal on some top shelf, buy them out and store it in my basement, would I be able to sell it to bars 10 years down the line?

>> No.11221150

No because you'd keep dipping into them, and in 10 years nothing is left.

not a terrible waste of good whiskey

You won't be able to sell it to bars but you can sell it privately online.
I own multiple cases of Macallan Edition No 1, 2 and 3. They were rare cask collaborations originally selling for $100-$120 per bottle depending on the store and state.

Those same edition 1 bottles now sell for $800 - https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/the+macallan+edition+no+one+single+malt+scotch+whisky+speyside+highlands+scotland/0

The other editions will follow suit, and being able to offer packages of edition 1, 2 and 3 together sell for thousands of dollars.

I got a bottle of 1974 glenmorangie pride as a graduation gift from my rich neighbors supposedly it’s going to be worth a lot of money in many years

>> No.11221354

How long did you age them?
Do you have trouble finding buyers?
Did you have any special connections to get your inventory at the right price?
Do you ever take losses on over hyped bottles that don't age well?

lmao your neighbors gave you a 6.5k bottle of whiskey for graduation? Your parents maybe, but really your neighbors? Sorry that seems hard to believe, but if you're not lying then yeah that shit will be worth 30-50k in like 20 years.

1. These editions just came out in recent years so not long, the number 1 edition came out 3-4 years ago and the others after it so they haven't aged long.
2. I haven't sold any of them yet, but no I will not have any trouble selling them to friends or whiskey aficionados online. I could also illegally sell them to some of my fathers stores but that's not needed.
3. My father is a liquor salesmen and has been one for his entire career so yes I did.
4. I'm not really a collector although I likely will be in years to come. The Macallan's I mentioned are the only whiskey / scotch I'm aging to sell in the near future, I drink everything else I own because I fucking love scotch, bourbon and whiskey too much.

Thanks for dropping all of this knawladge!
So in summary, if I'm going to collect whiskey for a secondary market, I'd have to get a hook up at a prestigious distillery on the secret stash and flip it to other collectors, but not bars or retailers.

You do know that whiskey in a bottle doesn’t age. The ageing is done in the barrel

I think he was referring to ageing in terms of price for a certain batch not taste. IE you buy a bottle of $1000 bottle of whiskey expecting it to go up as time passes but it doesn't.

If you want smooth, sipping quality, try Woodford Reserve. Good stuff, would be wasted with a mixer.

Ethanol escapes the bottle, barrels absorb it. Either way, it reduces the gas fire effect, you get after a pull. The barrel effects the flavor, but bottles don't.

good liquor is not about the flavor, it's about the effect
Is it gonna make you barf, give you heart burn, make you shart in the morning, give you a headache or make you depressed?
Then it's shit. Spit it out. No matter what it tastes like.
If you can stomach a whole bottle in one sitting and go to work the next day, with lots of energy and a hard on for life, you paid a lot for it.

that's what cocktails are for.
they also help prevent hangovers and all that other shit I mentioned.
just remember, you want more vitamin C than sugar. So don't drink that faggot shit.

I know I've had some bottle aged, where a quarter of the bottle evaporated and it was smooth, mellow and potent.
