Why not just created a standardized response structure for APIs with signed messages from a private key owned by whoever's running the API. Owner of the API discloses public keys where necessary. You could then have anyone push these responses into smart contracts, which would validate the signer of the message. No need of oracles at all with this setup.

There's nothing to prove here, I just think that the white paper doesn't contemplate how hard it is to design a reputation system that can't be exploited. I've been trying to come up within my own reputation system and I'm aware of how difficult it is to solve problems like reputation inflation or reputation farming.

So things are more complicated than what the white paper describes. A reputation system should be a project on its own. That's why I agree with OP that you need a much larger team to pull this off.

So now every existing API would have to make some internal change, which touches their security model, in order to write data to smart contracts. Are they being paid to do this? AND they need to reformat their responding data to a "standardized" format? Who creates this standard? Good luck getting them to change. Who pays for the gas to write to the smart contract?
