You're shorting at a high risk time this close to rec sales start in Canada. Safer and potentially higher percentage play is to sit out the first big drop and short the top of the bull trap. That is my usual short strategy of inflated speculative stocks. It worked well on the dude weed earlier this year. While January was the start of a bearish reversal, there was extreme volatility before the trend change fully took over.

what happens is a mad FOMO, a huge bullrun, then a massive wave of selling after it gaps up beyond what everyone thought possible. after this, latecomers will trickle in for a while and keep it aloft, but not move it too much. eventually stoned latecomers stop coming in, and selling starts to chain together. then its ogre

Spastic volatility at the top isn't the bull trap. There should be a multi day plug followed by a significant bounce. Short the lower high on that bounce. I realize 'bull trap' is a pretty subjective concept but that's how i define it. Better confirmation of trend reversal and somewhat lower risk. Depends on trading style though. My approach to shorting is not the only effective way.

except in every case w CGC, the bulltrap has been HIGHER than the "peak". you catch it from the bearish divergence (see pic).

pot is unique because absolute fucking retards (slow moving retards, at that) trade it at the very peak, which makes its distribution phase a little clunky. at best it has one more week of choppy sideways trading.

>> No.11011700

>>11011657
My concern about that is fake outs. Look at the run up on the first peak on your chart and the last one. About 75% of the way up you have a deep red candle with overbought RSI followed by a big green candle forming a lower high at that time. If you had entered short at either of those points you would have been squeezed. This is exactly what happened to fuel the final push to new ATH at those times (fake out short squeeze).

Buying a call with a strike price higher than the current stock price (or a put with strike price lower than current stock price) allows you to pay a lower premium for that option. This is called buying an "out of the money" option.

Depends on the brokerage you choose. I use my bank's and they give free level 2 as long as you make more than (i think?) fifteen trades a month.

>anyone ever tried to use this real-time? is it shit? or is it accurate
>i think i could do a lot of damage w a decent lvl2 desu

It is manipulated just as much as anything else on the stock market. Bluff bid and ask walls are constant. What is true on the order ledger one hour may be completely different the next. However, I find it invaluable for trading low volatility derivatives like warrants. Trading warrants with level 2 information available means you can essentially trade with whale strategies using only a couple grand. For example, say the warrants are trading very slow on a given day. The bid/ask spread is massive and nobody is watching it that closely. Bid is several percent below last trade price. You can buy everything on sale for that bid price, drop the trading price by whatever the spread was in the process, watch it bounce straight back up within a couple hours.

Another thing to watch out for is consistent depth to either bid or ask side. Walls at a single price or a couple prices are not as convincing as large amount of orders across the whole list. It's possible to manipulate that as well but, in my experience, less common to see. If bid ledger, for example, has a buy wall at support but also almost as many orders at several prices right below it, I would consider that a fairly reliable sign that support level will hold. If there is just the one big buy wall and then thin orders after that, that's bearish.

totally newbie question, but how often do you struggle with selling a stock you want to sell? do you often have to wait a while? or does it happen almost immediately?

>> No.11016188

>>11016171
depends on the "volume" of the stock or rather its popularity of being bough/sold.
most stocks are sold instantly if your price them right. people bid a price for stocks to buy while others ask a certain price when they sell. if you price your sell at the bid it will sell instantly most of the time.

>> No.11016238

>>11016171
if you wanna sell immediately you can "market sell"/sell at the ask price.
if you wanna get a better price, you set a limit at your price. if the price doesnt hit your limt, it wont fill, so generally if people want their order filled they will keep their limits not too far out of the "spread" (the distance between the bid and ask).

ATM calls on TLT
hedge either w TMV, or with calls on index of your choice when appropriate

imma prolly do this:
i expect volatility and more drops in the indexes, so im long bonds all week. then ill do knife catches on IWM w ITM calls. indexes and long bonds usually inverse each other, so it should stay roughly hedged. not to mention the bonds dropped WITH the market last week, so theyre in a good spot to be bought up imo
