Fact of the matter is that poor people don't matter. The real "problem" for crypto is that the rich haven't adopted it en masse yet.
But that's just a matter of time and also a generational thing. The rich kids growing up with online economies etc. will obviously start diversifying part of their wealth into bitcoin (which by then will have existed for decades and thus also be seen as a more stable investment).

Yes there is, BTC already is the de-facto reserve currency of crypto. It has the network effect and first mover advantage. Ethereum moves with BTC, not the other way around.
Also, one crypto kitty app is enough to stop the network (so it's main proposed use case doesn't even work yet), and sharding is as of yet pie in the sky (spoiler: they won't succeed).
