NVidia went down below $250 and the 1 month calls were cheap as dirt so I had to get on that.

I'm bearish on them in the long run though, I suspect the 2080 launch will be less impressive than the hype surrounding it, so I bought my calls for right around release and fully intend to sell them in the next couple weeks once I feel like the hype has peaked, preferably before actual benchmarks get out there.

My plan overall is something like 40% QQQ 40% SPY and 20% various blue chip companies, especially as new ones pop up I might want to get in on early.

My question si more like 'is it really necessary to buy AAPL or AMZN instead of just more QQQ' which seems like it would overexpose me to tech without realizing it

You can buy spy which includes the underachievers of the S&P 500 or you can select from the S&P 500 and buy individual stocks. So let's say I thought stock X was trash and it was within the bottom 10% of spy perofmance wise, it makes more sense to not buy trash.

I bought big and bought long into RH (they own Pier One Imports) after seeing their new space-efficient floor model in person, back when it was the most shorted stock of 2017. People said I was retarded but their financials were good, the CEO is highly talented, and he had every incentive to get the stock up to $150 like it is now (he was promised about half a billion dollars in stock options for hitting that mark). I got to shove it in my buddies faces when it hit $150 and I was sitting on tens of thousands in equity.

At first I was kicking myself for selling 100 shares of AMD at 25, and another 100 at 26, but thank god it's crashing. Time to buy the dip.
