I'd argue that money CAN'T buy happiness because those who "make it" have to do some really fucked up shit to get there. In my line of work I am around a lot of candidly wealthy people (no I myself am not rich) and they all have one thing in common, and that is that they all say the sacrificed almost everything to become rich. Everything from literally having people killed, to sabatoging a small business and ruining a family financially, or even just losing a close friendship, all these things take a toll on even the most jaded autist over time. So by the time you are rich, you've already sacrificed basically everything other than money that is worth anything in life.

Not every rich bloke feels this way but some rich guy with a net worth in the 100's of millions said that to me once almost word for word and it hit my feels.

Let me tell you something. In the current society we're living, people only have two ways to quantify the value of someone else at first glance : their looks/fitness and their money. That's it. Rich people are loved because they must have something valuable (something produced by their brain for most or their looks/genes) in them that made them wealthy in the first place.
